procedures. At this level, preparations are made to install two
flood gates at Hill Street and Center Street if the forecast
exceeds 20.5 feet.
* Impact: At 18.0 feet...Gate wells are shut down to prevent the
sewers from backing up. Also at this level pumps are set to
standby.

* Impact: At 24.0 feet...Water begins covering Highway C about a
half mile south of Highway B in St. Charles County.
* Impact: At 21.6 feet...Near this stage, the Corps will raise all
gates out of the river, creating "open river" conditions. This
corresponds to an approximate discharge of 145,000 cfs.

* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast: The river will continue to fall but remain above flood
stage through this upcoming weekend.
* Impact: At 16.2 feet...For navigational purposes through Alton
Lock and Dam control, the Corps will not allow the river to exceed
this level, if at all possible. Above this level, water inundates

So lingering post frontal showers and some isolated thunderstorms not out of the question for today, tapering off from west to east by late this afternoon. Decent cold air advection behind this system, so temperatures to initially be falling through mid morning before becoming steady or slowly rise this afternoon. Byrd .LONG TERM: (Tonight through Monday) Issued at 325 AM CDT Tue May 13 2014 Precipitation will not come to an end completely as additional weak waves track northeast along frontal boundary. Best chances of showers tonight will be over southeastern and east central MO as well as southwestern IL. Lows to dip down into the mid 40s to low 50s. Then on Wednesday, more vigorous upper level shortwave to lift northeast along boundary lifting system into Ohio Valley by end of period. Some differences on placement and strength of system with NAM strongest and furthest west of the models. Will go with a blend, with pops on the increase for most of forecast area. It will remain rather chilly with highs about 15 degrees below normal for this time of year, in the mid to upper 50s. Showers to persist into Wednesday night as system exits region.
