.Synopsis...
Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches has fallen along much of the Illinois River
basin over the last few days, and this has caused significant rises
on the river. At Havana, the river is expected to reach flood
stage tonight, while it will take a couple more days before reaching
flood stage downstream at Beardstown. Upstream at Peoria, minor
flooding may develop in a few days, but this is still somewhat
uncertain.
The following forecasts are based on observed precipitation, soil
moisture conditions, and forecast precipitation.

Extensive cloud cover across the northwest have kept the cap in place there and a frontal boundary is not too far to the west, from western Wisconsin into west central Missouri. The southeast half of the forecast area has seen much more sunshine, and the cap is gone there with surface based CAPE's already in the 1500-2500 J/kg range. Should start to see some more pop-up storms similar to the last few days, both in that area and also further west as the front starts to move into the area. And similar to the last couple days, a juicy atmosphere, with precipitable waters up around 1.8 inches, will lead to locally heavy rains with the individual storms. Severe weather parameters still aren't really any better that recent days, so we may see some downdrafts in the pulse-type storms briefly produce severe gusts. Models still having major issues with handling the convection, the mesoscale boundary influences, and the re-fire in the instability of the afternoon. No matter if its a high res or longer range, there is a wide range of solutions. Though the 500mb level has plenty of agreement and works rather well through the med range at least, a simple model initialization analysis will show the mishandling of the convection over the middle of the CONUS in the lower levels. This info and some pattern recognition resulting in predominantly a persistence forecast. Some pulling guidance from BC blends of raw data and MOS. First and major issue with the forecast being the proximity of the front just over the Miss River Valley and the wave aloft being slower, and more subtle. With the discontinuity between the sfc boundary and the wave aloft, hesitate to pull too much of the pops in the shorter term. SHORT TERM...Today and tonight... Hot and humid again today. Front just over the Miss River this morning not expected to move too quickly today. Wave aloft open and varied from run to run with moving over the area until later tonight/tomorrow morning. As a result, today and tonight are dominated with pops, slowly ending NW to SE closer to the early morning hours. Another day with heat indices into the 90s, though will be heavily impacted with convective activity through the afternoon. LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday... Tomorrow one of the cooler days in the forecast, behind the front and northwesterly winds. Best chances for a dry day, given that no MCVs remain in the region, and the front clears the SE. Tomorrow night as well. A quasi zonal pattern kicks in for the next couple days. GFS and ECMWF differ in the arrival time and impact of the next shortwave, passing to the north, but the next synoptic wave on its heels for Thurs night into Friday, with the next big chances for significant weather.
