Issued at 335 AM CDT MON OCT 13 2014

A powerful Autumn storm system was diving into the Southern Plains
with strong to severe storms from Oklahoma into Texas. Further
north, a well defined deformation band has formed over Kansas with
ample moisture feeding northward into southeastern Kansas and
Missouri. This deformation band will likely fill in over east
central Kansas and western Missouri this morning as the upper system
continues to dig into the Southern Plains. Models are in decent
agreement taking the surface low just to the southeast/east of the
forecast area, and just ahead of the strong PV anomaly forcing it.
With this track of the surface low and the upper-level PV, there
will likely be a dry slot established from southeastern Kansas
through central Missouri that may clip portions of our southern to
eastern forecast area. This doesn't bode well for any outdoor events
this evening as the deformation band would likely be slowly rotating
through eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Although by this
evening the precipitation intensity may be waning.

The other story with this system will be the winds. Have increased
winds about 5kts. So even if the precipitation intensity may be
waning, with the surface low tracking just east of the area, a very
tight pressure gradient is expected to lead to winds in the 20 to 25
mph range, with gusts in the 30 to 40 mph range. This windy, wet
forecast would make being outside even more miserable. But it's not
snow, so we have that going for us.

Precipitation will be slow to end from west to east through the
night and into Tuesday. Winds may be even stronger on Tuesday as
there may be some enhancement from deeper mixing as clouds erode
from west to east.

For the extended, precipitation should come to an end over the
eastern portions of the forecast area Tuesday night or Wednesday
morning. However, models have trended towards cutting this upper low
off and not moving it east quite as fast. So there may be some
lingering impacts across our far eastern zones even into Wednesday.
Otherwise, shortwave ridging will build into the area from the west.
This will lead to drying conditions for the later half of the week,
with temperatures closer to normal in the upper 60s and lower 70s. A
more typical northwesterly flow regime will set up by the weekend and
there may be several shortwave troughs move through the area.
Consensus was to decrease or remove PoPs late in the week and
weekend due to inconsistency in timing any individual wave that may
bring some precipitation to the area.

A slow moving upper level low will move from near TUL to near STL
through the TAF period. Light to ocnl mod rain will move slowly east
across northwest MO and eastern KS affecting the terminals until
after midnight with IFR conds. Rain will come to an end btn 06Z-08Z
but IFR cigs will cont thru the overnight before lifting to low MVFR
around 12Z tomorrow. Winds will be out of the N to NW btn 15-20kts
with gusts btn 25-30kts thru the period.
