MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0732
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0138 PM CDT SUN MAY 06 2012

AREAS AFFECTED...CNTRL MS AND FAR W-CNTRL AL

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 061838Z - 062045Z

PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...5 PERCENT

SUMMARY...ISOLATED STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH
THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON. PERIODIC INSTANCES OF LARGE HAIL AND
STRONG/GUSTY WINDS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE STRONGEST STORMS. GIVEN
THE EXPECTED DISORGANIZED/ISOLATED NATURE OF THE CONVECTION A WW IS
NOT ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME.

DISCUSSION...ISOLATED STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS HAD DEVELOPED
THIS AFTERNOON ALONG AN OUTFLOW BOUNDARY FROM OVERNIGHT CONVECTION
ACROSS THE TN VALLEY. AS THE AIR MASS HAS BECOME STRONGLY
UNSTABLE...SOME VIGOROUS UPDRAFTS WERE EVIDENT. STEEP LOW AND MID
LEVEL LAPSE RATES COMBINED WITH COLD TEMPERATURES ALOFT PER THE 12Z
JAN RAOB WILL SUPPORT LARGE HAIL PRODUCTION WITH THE STRONGER
STORMS. STORM COVERAGE IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN ISOLATED AND RATHER
PULSE-LIKE IN NATURE GIVEN WEAK DEEP LAYER SHEAR AND LACK OF
STRONGER UPPER LEVEL FORCING FOR ASCENT. ACROSS SRN AL INTO SRN
GA...A MORE SUBSTANTIAL COLD POOL FROM OVERNIGHT CONVECTION HAS
HELPED STORMS ORGANIZE INTO A LINEAR STRUCTURE ALONG THE OUTFLOW
BOUNDARY. THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE THE CASE ACROSS CNTRL MS AT
THIS TIME AND THEREFORE NO WW IS ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME GIVEN
ISOLATED/DISORGANIZED NATURE OF THE CONVECTION.
