NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0110 AM CST TUE MAR 08 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...SWRN KS

CONCERNING...HEAVY SNOW

VALID 080710Z - 081115Z

A NARROW WEDGE OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP
ACROSS PORTIONS OF SWRN KS OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. SNOW RATES MAY
APPROACH ONE INCH PER HOUR.

EARLY MORNING SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTS A FAIRLY WELL DEFINED UPPER
VORT OVER THE WRN OK/NWRN TX PANHANDLE REGION. THIS FEATURE IS
SHEARING EWD INTO AN AREA OF HIGHER RH WHERE ASCENT SHOULD EASILY
INDUCE A STRENGTHENING BAND OF HEAVY SNOW...SOME OF IT CONVECTIVE IN
NATURE. ALTHOUGH A BIT OF FREEZING RAIN HAS BEEN REPORTED AT TIMES
NEAR THE SFC FREEZING LINE IT APPEARS MOST OF THE HEAVIER
PRECIPITATION NORTH OF THE UPPER VORT WILL FALL AS SNOW ACROSS SWRN
KS. LATEST FORECAST RUC SOUNDINGS ALSO SUGGEST SUFFICIENT ELEVATED
INSTABILITY FOR UPRIGHT CONVECTION IF LIFTING PARCELS IN THE
650-700MB LAYER. HEAVIER SNOW BURSTS ARE POSSIBLE IF THUNDERSTORMS
DEVELOP ACROSS THIS REGION.
