A WEATHER SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION WITH ENOUGH MOISTURE
AND INSTABILITY TO CAUSE SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS TODAY. THE
STRONGEST THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BE OVER CENTRAL OREGON AND
ALONG THE CASCADE EAST SLOPES. ALTHOUGH THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER
HAS DOWNGRADED THE WIDESPREAD THREAT FOR SEVERE STORMS, SOME STORMS
ACROSS CENTRAL OREGON MAY PRODUCE PARTICULARLY STRONG WINDS AND HAIL
GREATER THAN ONE-HALF INCH IN DIAMETER.

THESE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BE HIGH BASED DUE TO THE DRY AND
VERY WARM AIR AT THE SURFACE. AS SUCH, THEY HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO
PRODUCE ABUNDANT LIGHTNING...YET LITTLE RAINFALL. A RED FLAG
WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM EARLY THIS AFTERNOON UNTIL LATE THIS
EVENING FOR THUNDERSTORMS WITH ABUNDANT LIGHTNING...WHICH MAY CAUSE
NUMEROUS NEW FIRE STARTS ACROSS THE FIRE WEATHER DISTRICT. PLEASE
REFER TO NWS HAZARD PRODUCT ID PDXRFWPDT FOR MORE DETAILS.

THUNDERSTORMS THURSDAY
     NORTHWEST BLUE MOUNTAINS OF WASHINGTON, NORTH CENTRAL OREGON,
     EAST SLOPES OF THE OREGON CASCADES, GRANDE RONDE VALLEY,
     WALLOWA COUNTY, NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, SOUTHERN
     BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, JOHN DAY BASIN, OCHOCO-JOHN DAY
     HIGHLANDS

SOME INSTABILITY AND MOISTURE WILL REMAIN OVER THE AREA ON THURSDAY
WHICH MAY RESULT IN AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS AGAIN IN SOUTHERN
PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA. THESE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN WEAK. THERE WILL BE A BETTER CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS ON
FRIDAY AS A STRONG WEATHER SYSTEM MOVES ACROSS THE REGION. THE
OVERALL WEATHER PATTERN IS NOT EXPECTED TO CHANGE WITH AN UPPER
RIDGE OVER THE INLAND WEST AND A TROUGH OFF THE COAST...RESULTING IN
A GENERALLY WARM SOUTHWEST FLOW PATTERN AND CONTINUED VERY WARM
CONDITIONS THROUGH MOST OF THE EXTENDED PERIOD WITH POSSIBLE
THUNDERSTORMS FROM TIME TO TIME.
