Area forecast discussion, Jun 10, 3:43 PM CDT, 1 hour 34 minutes before
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AMARILLO TX 343 PM CDT WED JUN 10 2009 .DISCUSSION... UPPER LEVEL SHORTWAVE TROUGH EVIDENT ON THE LATEST WATER VAPOR IMAGERY ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO. THIS FEATURE COMBINED WITH THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY DRAPED ACROSS THE AREA SPARKED A COMPLEX OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THIS MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON ACROSS PARTS OF THE PANHANDLES. WITH THE STRONGEST ACTIVITY PUSHING OFF TO THE EAST...WENT AHEAD AND CANCELLED THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR THE EASTERN TEXAS PANHANDLE AROUND 230 PM. UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL CONTINUE TO TRACK OFF TO THE EAST.. NORTHEAST DURING THE EVENING HOURS. WOULDNT BE SURPRISED TO SEE SOME ADDITIONAL CONVECTION DEVELOP ACROSS EASTERN NEW MEXICO AND SOUTHEAST COLORADO AND MOVE INTO THE PANHANDLES...SO WILL LEAVE SLIGHT END POPS DURING OVERNIGHT PERIOD. FRONTAL BOUNDARY LOOKS TO MAKE ANOTHER PUSH TOWARDS THE PANHANDLES TONIGHT AND SHOULD BE DRAPED ACROSS THE SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE BY 12Z TOMORROW. IF THE BOUNDARY GETS BACK THROUGH HERE...TEMPERATURES TOMORROW MAY BE COOLER THAN ADVERTISED MAV NUMBERS. THINK THIS SCENARIO IS PLAUSIBLE SO SHAVED A FEW DEGREES OFF THE MAV NUMBERS ACROSS THE BOARD. WINDS SHOULD REGAIN AN UPSLOPE COMPONENT LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON INTO THURSDAY NIGHT...WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE LOWER 50S. WILL RETAIN THE SLIGHT END POPS FOR THURSDAY NIGHT TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS. FRIDAY THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE FORECAST...MEDIUM TO LONG RANGE RUNS OF THE GFS/EUROPEAN REMAIN IN PRETTY GOOD AGREEMENT ON THE UPPER AIR PATTERN. UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL BE SITUATED OVER THE WESTERN UNITED STATES WITH DOWNSTREAM RIDGING TO THE EAST. THIS WILL PUT THE PANHANDLES IN A PERSISTENT WEST TO SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT... WITH SEVERAL UPPER LEVEL IMPULSES TRACKING ACROSS THE AREA. SURFACE TROUGH/DRYLINE MAY GET ACTIVE AS WELL DURING THIS TIME FRAME...WHICH COULD FURTHER PROVIDE A FOCUS SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. ON GOING FORECAST WITH LATE EVENING/NIGHT TIME POPS FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY SEEM REASONABLE FOR NOW. HOWEVER...WHEN DETAILS OF FINER MESOSCALE FEATURES BECOME MORE EVIDENT...ADDITIONAL POPS MAY BE NEEDED DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS INTO THE WEEKEND...BUT WILL KEEP THEM NON MENTIONABLE FOR NOW. WITH CONTINUED SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT...LOOK FOR TEMPERATURES TO BEGIN TO CLIMB BACK TO OR ABOVE SEASONAL NORMALS FRIDAY THROUGH THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK. LOWER TO MIDDLE 90S SEEM PLAUSIBLE BY MONDAY INTO TUESDAY. 12Z MEX NUMBERS AND CURRENT FORECAST COVER THIS PRETTY WELL SO NOTHING MORE THAN MINOR ADJUSTMENTS WERE MADE TO TEMPS DURING THE EXTENDED. && .FIRE WEATHER... MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES MAY FALL BETWEEN 15 AND 20 PERCENT ACROSS THE WESTERN PANHANDLES THROUGH THE WEEKEND. HOWEVER...RECENT RAINFALL...MARGINAL WINDS...AND ADDITIONAL CHANCES FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD PRECLUDE ANY FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS THROUGH THE WEEKEND. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
