Chatham, MA (KCHH), launched 12:00Z, 2.5 hours before the alert went out and 130 km from the middle of its area. This is the routine balloon launch nearest before it, the air the forecaster had in hand, not a measurement taken for the alert.

AREAS AFFECTED...NEW ENGLAND

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 031427Z - 031700Z

12Z UPR AIR ANALYSIS DEPICTS A LOW ALONG THE VT/UPSTATE NY BORDER
WITH AN ASSOCD POOL OF MINUS 12 TO MINUS 15 DEG C H5 TEMPERATURES
OVER MOST OF NEW ENGLAND. AT THE SAME TIME...MID-MORNING SFC DEW
POINTS WERE IN THE LWR-MID 60S AND LATEST GOES SOUNDER PWAT VALUES
WERE HOVERING FROM 1.25-1.5 INCH. RESULTANT THERMODYNAMIC PROFILE
CHARACTERIZED BY MODEST MID-TROPOSPHERIC LAPSE RATES AND SUFFICIENT
MOISTURE WILL SET THE STAGE FOR PULSE-SVR AND LOW-TOPPED MULTICELL
TSTMS THROUGH PEAK HEATING.

12Z RAOB AND CURRENT VSBL SATL LOOPS SUGGEST THE STRONGEST BUOYANCY
WILL LIKELY EXIST IN AN N-S AXIS CENTERED ACROSS CT...RI NWD INTO
PARTS OF NH. THIS REGION WILL BE SITUATED BENEATH THE COLDEST
MID-LVL COLD POOL AND STRONGEST INSOLATION. THE VERTICAL SHEAR WILL
REMAIN WEAK IN THE LOWEST 6KM...BUT MODESTLY LOW WBZ LEVELS WILL
FOSTER HAIL PRODUCTION. GUSTY WINDS CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED.

SVR WEATHER POTENTIAL WILL PROBABLY BE LIMITED IN SPATIAL AND
TEMPORAL SCALES. HOWEVER...UPCOMING 1630Z SWODY1 WILL INCLUDE AT
LEAST LOW SVR PROBABILITIES. IF EARLY AFTN TSTMS SEEM TO BE
ORGANIZING MORE THAN EXPECTED...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MAY HAVE
TO BE CONSIDERED.
