THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MIDLAND HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  PECOS COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST TEXAS
  BREWSTER COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST TEXAS

* UNTIL 900 AM CDT

* AT 450 AM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR DETECTED    
  A LARGE AREA OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUING OVER EASTERN 
  PECOS AND BREWSTER COUNTIES. THIS RAINFALL AND RUNOFF FROM HEAVY   
  RAINFALL OVERNIGHT WILL LIKELY RESULT IN FLASH FLOODING. THE       
  GREATEST THREAT FOR FLOODING WILL BE ALONG U.S. HIGHWAYS 285 AND   
  385 IN SOUTHERN PECOS COUNTY...AND ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 90 IN        
  NORTHERN BREWSTER COUNTY.  

MOST FLOODING DEATHS ARE PREVENTABLE...AND MANY OCCUR WHEN MOTORISTS
DRIVE ACROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS. IT IS NEVER SAFE TO DRIVE ON FLOODED
ROADS. ONLY A FEW INCHES OF RAPIDLY FLOWING WATER CAN QUICKLY CARRY
AWAY YOUR VEHICLE. TURN AROUND... DONT DROWN.

...A FLASH FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES UNTIL 900 AM CDT FOR BREWSTER AND
PECOS COUNTIES...

AT 555 AM CDT...THE BROADCAST MEDIA IN ALPINE REPORTED THAT ALPINE 
CREEK IS RUNNING HIGH THROUGH THE CITY OF ALPINE. LOCAL LAW 
ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL HAVE BARRICADED NUMEROUS CITY STREETS DUE TO 
FLOOD WATERS UP TO 3 FEET DEEP. 

ALTHOUGH THE HEAVY RAINFALL HAS MOVED EAST OF ALPINE OVER EASTERN 
BREWSTER COUNTY AND SOUTHERN PECOS COUNTY...EXCESSIVE RUNOFF WILL 
CONTINUE TO POSE A THREAT OF FLASH FLOODING. 

MOTORISTS SHOULD STRICTLY OBSERVE BARRICADES DO NOT DRIVE YOUR 
VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. VEHICLES 
CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOST FLOODING 
DEATHS ARE PREVENTABLE. TURN AROUND... DONT DROWN
