MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0604
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1209 PM CDT MON APR 28 2003

AREAS AFFECTED...SWRN MO/SERN KS/NERN OK

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL

VALID 281709Z - 281915Z

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS SWRN MO AND
SERN KS OVER THE NEXT 1 TO 2 HOURS. THE CONVECTION SHOULD MOVE ESEWD
ACROSS SWRN-SCNTRL MO AND MAY AFFECT NWRN AR/NERN OK. LARGE HAIL
SHOULD BE THE PRIMARY THREAT. WW MAY BE NEEDED WITHIN THE NEXT FEW
HOURS.

OUTFLOW BOUNDARY WAS LOCATED FROM N OF SPRINGFIELD MO EXTENDING WWD
TO WICHITA KS. SURFACE DEWPOINTS OF 60-65 F EXISTED ALONG AND TO THE
S OF THE BOUNDARY. TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 80S F WERE CONTRIBUTING
TO MODERATE INSTABILITY WITH MLCAPE VALUES AROUND 1500 J/KG. AS
CONVERGENCE INCREASES...STORM INITIATION SHOULD OCCUR IN THE
VICINITY OF THE BOUNDARY BY 19Z. 0-6 KM SHEAR IN THIS REGION WAS
AROUND 25 KNOTS SUGGESTING THE CONVECTION WILL REMAIN MULTICELLULAR.
STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND MODERATE INSTABILITY SHOULD RESULT
IN A HAIL THREAT ACROSS SWRN-SCNTRL MO/SERN KS/NERN OK/NWRN AR. WW
MAY BE NECESSARY WITH THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO.
