THE THREAT WILL REMAIN MARGINAL...THEREFORE A WW IS NOT ANTICIPATED. THE 20Z DAY 1 OUTLOOK WILL INCLUDE A 5 PERCENT PROBABILITY FOR WIND AND HAIL OVER THIS REGION. LATEST WV IMAGERY SHOWS A SHORTWAVE TROUGH PROGRESSING EWD ACROSS NRN NV. RELATIVELY COLD MID LEVEL TEMPERATURES /-10 TO -11 DEG C/ WERE SAMPLED IN THE VICINITY OF THIS SYSTEM. OVERNIGHT CONVECTION OVER THE LOWER COLORADO RIVER HAS AIDED IN LOW-MID LEVEL MOISTURE INCREASE OVER PORTIONS OF THE SRN/ERN GREAT BASIN...AS EVIDENT BY THE 12Z DESERT ROCK SOUNDING AND 24 HOUR SFC PARAMETER COMPARISON. 30 KT MID LEVEL WIND MAX WILL TRAVERSE THE AREA DURING THE AFTERNOON...WITH 300 MB WIND MAX AROUND 50 KTS SUPPORTING HIGH LEVEL STORM TOP DIVERGENCE AND SOME STORM ROTATION. THIS SHOULD AID IN THE THREAT FOR ISOLATED SEVERE HAIL...ESPECIALLY NEAR THE HIGHER TERRAIN. THE MAIN LIMITING FACTOR FOR MORE ORGANIZED/LONGER LASTING SEVERE HAIL THREAT WILL BE THE LACK OF INSTABILITY. OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS FIELDS AND MODIFIED FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST ONLY AROUND 500 J/KG OF MLCAPE. DCAPE VALUES FROM 1200-1400 J/KG SUGGEST THAT THE STRONGEST STORMS MAY BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING SEVERE WIND GUSTS. ..CROSBIE.. 08/24/2003 ...PLEASE SEE WWW.SPC.NOAA.GOV FOR GRAPHIC PRODUCT...
