MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2116
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0116 AM CDT THU AUG 07 2003

AREAS AFFECTED...ERN MT

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL

VALID 070616Z - 070715Z

WIND THREAT EXISTS FOR THE NEXT HOUR OR SO ACROSS PORTIONS OF NERN
MT...BUT ISOLATED THREAT SHOULD PRECLUDE A WW ISSUANCE.

A SMALL BOW ECHO EXTENDED FROM 10 SW OLF TO 35 NW OF GDV AND WAS
MOVING ENEWD AT 40 KT. DESPITE WEAK INSTABILITY...STRONG MESO HIGH
AND LARGE PRESSURE RISES SUGGEST THAT DAMAGING WINDS MAY OCCUR WITH
THIS BOW DURING THE NEXT HOUR. CURRENT MOTION PLACES SYSTEM IN ERN
RICHLAND COUNTY BY 07Z AND THEN IN EXTREME WRN ND BY 0730Z. AS THE
MESO HIGH SLOWLY WEAKENS AND THE SMALL BOW MOVES INTO A MORE STABLE
AIR MASS...WINDS WITHIN STORM SHOULD DECREASE BELOW SEVERE LIMITS.

AN ISOLATED STRONG/SEVERE STORM WAS LOCATED ABOUT 60 SSW GGW AND THE
STORM UPDRAFTS ARE LOCATED ABOVE THE COOLER BOUNDARY LAYER.
MARGINALLY SEVERE HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS STORM AS IT TRACKS
EWD.
