AREAS AFFECTED...N CNTRL NV...SRN ID

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL

VALID 301429Z - 301630Z

WW IS LIKELY SOON.

STRONG CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT IS ONGOING ACROSS PARTS OF THE NORTH
CENTRAL GREAT BASIN...WITH A GRADUAL INTENSIFICATION EVIDENT DURING
THE PAST COUPLE OF HOURS ACROSS PARTS OF SOUTHEAST OREGON/NORTHWEST
NEVADA/SOUTHWEST IDAHO. ACTIVITY IS BEING SUPPORTED BY STRONG
MID/UPPER FORCING FOR UPWARD VERTICAL MOTION ASSOCIATED WITH
VIGOROUS SHORT WAVE TROUGH CURRENTLY MIGRATING NORTHEAST OF THE
NORTHERN SIERRA/SOUTHERN CASCADES REGION. THOUGH MODELS SUGGEST
SHORT WAVE WILL WEAKEN TODAY AS IT MOVES THROUGH LARGER-SCALE UPPER
RIDGE AXIS OVER THE NORTHERN INTER MOUNTAIN REGION...FORCING IS
EXPECTED TO REMAIN SUFFICIENT TO SUPPORT ADDITIONAL CONVECTIVE
DEVELOPMENT.

ENVIRONMENT IS MOIST AND POTENTIALLY MODERATELY UNSTABLE ACROSS MUCH
OF SOUTHERN IDAHO AND NORTHERN NEVADA...AND WITH CONTINUED SURFACE
HEATING...MEAN MIXED LAYER CAPE IN EXCESS OF 1000 J/KG IS LIKELY.
50 KT MID-LEVEL FLOW IS CONTRIBUTING TO SUFFICIENT VERTICAL SHEAR
FOR ISOLATED SUPERCELLS...AND THIS THREAT WILL CONTINUE INTO THE
AFTERNOON HOURS. MOST INTENSE CELLS WILL PERSIST IN ASSOCIATION
WITH STRONGEST MID-LEVEL FORCING ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL
NEVADA/SOUTHWEST IDAHO NEXT FEW HOURS...WITH ADDITIONAL SEVERE CELLS
LIKELY DEVELOPING SHORTLY ACROSS PARTS OF SOUTHEAST IDAHO...IN ZONE
OF ENHANCED LOW-LEVEL WARM ADVECTION.
