AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH NC 950 PM EST TUE NOV 5 2002 INTERESTING EVENT WITH QUITE A DEEP STABLE POOL OVER THE CWA WITHIN AN IN SITU DAMMING AIR MASS. COASTAL FRONT REMAINS WELL DEFINED ON MSAS... HOWEVER FAIRLY RAPID FRONTOGENESIS HAS TAKEN PLACE OVER THE PIEDMONT IN THE LAST FEW HOURS WITH GOOD MSLP FALLS OVER THE COASTAL PLAIN. OBSERVED WINDS FROM GSO-CLT WESTWARD HAVE TURNED N OR NW WHEREAS WINDS ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE DEVELOPING BOUNDARY ARE UNIFORM SE. THIS SUPPORTS THE LATEST RUC WHICH INDICATES LOW LEVEL THICKNESSES RISING 20 M OVER THE NEXT 3-4 HOURS. MIXING DOWN THE WARMER AIR ON THE AREA SOUNDINGS GIVES A TEMP RISE TO THE LOWER TO MID 60S... BUT WITH COMPLETE DESTABILIZATION NOT EXPECTED OVER THE WESTERN PIEDMONT... WILL HAVE TEMPS RISING SLOWLY INTO THE 55-60 DEGREE RANGE THERE WITH MID 60S IN THE EAST (AND THIS MAY BE CONSERVATIVE). WILL RETAIN MENTION OF OCCASIONAL RAIN... ALTHOUGH MOST OF IT TONIGHT IS LIKELY TO BE RATHER LIGHT AND DRIZZLY. WILL KEEP ISOLATED THUNDER WHERE IT IS MENTIONED... AND WILL ADD AREAS OF FOG EVERYWHERE. ENVIRONMENT REMAINS HIGHLY SHEARED WITH TREMENDOUS SR HELICITIES OVER 1300 M2/S2 ON THE GSO SOUNDING AND VWPS SHOWING 50+ KT AT 3-5 KFT.
