AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 235 PM EDT MON JUN 24 2002 MODELS COMING AROUND TO A WETTER SOLN FOR THE TRI-STATE AREA. UPR TROF MOVG OFF THE COAST OF EASTERN CANADA DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE THE PUSH PREVIOUS RUNS HAD...THUS WITH THE CLOSER PROXIMITY OF THE FRONT AND AN IMPULSE IN THE NW FLOW ALOFT...CHC POPS WARRANTED DURING THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD. THE AXIS OF HEAVIEST PCPN VARIOUS AMONGST THE SHORT RANGE MODELS...WITH THE ETA PLACING IT ACROSS THE LWR HUDSON VLY...NE NJ AND THE CITY. THE AVN IS FARTHER TO THE SW...BUT STILL GETS SOME OF THE PCPN INTO THE FORECAST AREA. THE MM5 IS SUPPORTIVE OF THE ETA LOCATION AND QPF. BEING THAT THE FORECAST HINGES A GREAT DEAL ON WHERE THE BOUNDARY SETS UP...THERE IS SOME UNCERTAINTY AND A BLEND OF THE AVN AND ETA WAS USED. THE REMAINDER OF THE PERIOD WILL CONT TO BE MUGGY AND WARM WITH HEIGHTS STARTING TO FALL ON WED IN RESPONSE TO AN UPR TROF MOVG INTO THE GREAT LAKES. THIS VERY FEATURE HELPS TO BREAK OFF SOME OF THE UPR ENERGY ASSOC WITH THE CLOSED LOW OVER THE NW GULF...SENDING IT EWD ALONG THE SRN EDGE OF THE WESTERLIES.
