AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LITTLE ROCK AR 125 PM CDT SUN JUN 16 2002 AREA RADAR LOOPS SHOW THAT MOST OF THE PRECIP HAS EXITED OUR SOUTHEAST ZONES...WITH ONE EAST-WEST ORIENTED BAND OF RAIN LINGERING. ELSEWHERE...SATELLITE LOOPS SHOWED CLOUDS BREAKING UP...WITH ONLY A FEW TINY SHOWERS DEVELOPING. MODELS STILL PROJECTING A WEAK CUTOFF LOW TO DEVELOP OVER THE GULF COAST. ETA AND AVN 60 HOUR POSITIONS NEARLY ON TOP OF EACH OTHER IN SOUTHEAST LA. LONGER RANGE MODELS SUCH AS NOGAPS AND AVN EXTENSION SHOW THIS FEATURE WOBBLING AROUND OUR AREA IN SOME FORM FOR THE NEXT WEEK AND A HALF. IF THIS PROVES TRUE...IT WILL LEAD TO CONSIDERABLE CLOUDINESS AND ENHANCED AFTERNOON AND EVENING THUNDERSTORM CHANCES. BACK TO THE SHORT TERM...PLENTY OF LOW LEVEL MOISTURE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND STORMS THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. MESOETA FORECAST SOUNDINGS FOR MONDAY SHOW AN ISOTHERMAL LAYER BETWEEN 600 AND 700 MB WHICH WILL HAMPER CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT SOMEWHAT...BUT THERE APPEARS TO BE ENOUGH POSITIVE AREA BELOW THIS LAYER TO ALLOW DEVELOPING UPDRAFTS TO BREAK THROUGH IT. SMALL SHORTWAVE DEPICTED BY MESOETA WILL ALSO HELP. WILL GO WITH LESS THAN 20 POPS IN THE NORTH AND CENTRAL AND 20 POPS IN THE SOUTH TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS FEATURE. ON TUESDAY...THE LAYER ALOFT IS NO LONGER AS STABLE...SO WILL RAISE POPS BY 10 PERCENT ACROSS THE BOARD. TEMPERATURES WILL BE JUST A FEW DEGREES BELOW SEASONAL NORMALS. BEGINNING ON WEDNESDAY...THE PRIMARY FEATURE WILL BE THE CUTOFF LOW. CONFIDENCE IN PLACEMENT/STRENGTH OF THIS FEATURE IN THE LONGER RANGE IS LOW...SO WILL NOT TRY TO GET TOO SPECIFIC...BUT COMMENTS FROM TWO PARAGRAPHS AGO STILL APPLY.
