SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA AND SOUTHEAST TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA
200 PM CDT THU JUN 20 2002

RADAR THIS AFTERNOON SHOWS SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AND
ASSOCIATED OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA. GREATEST
CONCENTRATION SO FAR HAS BEEN WEST OF AN ALEXANDRIA TO LAKE CHARLES
LINE. HOWEVER...ACTIVITY FIRING UP JUST EAST OF THE ATCHAFALAYA
MOVING TO THE WEST...SO THOSE IN ACADIANA WILL STILL SEE A CHANCE OF
RAIN BEFORE THE AFTERNOON IS OVER.

WATER VAPOR CURRENTLY IS SHOWING UPPER RIDGE CENTERED OVER
MISSOURI. WHILE SHEAR AXIS IS EXTENDING FROM THE EASTERN GULF ACROSS
FLORIDA TO OFF THE SOUTHEAST US COAST. BETWEEN THE TWO...NORTHEAST
FLOW IS NOTED OVER THE REGION. THIS IS PUSHING THE LEADING EDGE
OF AN AREA OF SUBSIDENCE INTO NORTHERN GEORGIA/NORTHERN ALABAMA AND
POINTING TOWARDS THE FORECAST AREA.

IN THE SHORT TERM...LOSS OF DAYTIME HEATING WILL HELP DISSIPATE
CURRENT ACTIVITY DURING THE EVENING HOURS.

FOR FRIDAY AND OVER THE WEEKEND...UPPER LOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP
OVER THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE. UPPER RIDGE OVER THE CENTRAL PLAINS IS
EXPECTED TO FLATTEN ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE US. FLOW
AROUND THE RIDGE WILL HELP PUSH UPPER LOW AND ASSOCIATED INVERTED
TROF AT THE SURFACE SLOWLY WESTWARD INTO SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA BY
SUNDAY. THIS WILL PUT FORECAST AREA ON SUBSIDENCE/DRY SIDE OF
SYSTEM DURING THIS PERIOD. THIS IS REFLECTED BY PROGGED MOISTURE
VALUES OF PWAT NEAR 1.5 INCHES TOMORROW...BETWEEN 1 TO 1.25 INCHES
ON SATURDAY...BEFORE BEGINNING TO RECOVER TO NEAR 1.5 INCHES ON
SUNDAY.

ALSO...AS UPPER LOW APPROACHES...MEAN WIND BETWEEN 85H-5H BECOMES
NORTHEAST. THIS WILL HELP KEEP SEABREEZE ACTIVITY IN CHECK.
THEREFORE...WILL VARY BETWEEN 20 TO 30 PERCENT POPS DURING THE
PERIOD WITH THE DRIEST DAY EXPECTED ON SATURDAY.

EXTENDED FORECAST...
UPPER LOW AND WAVE WILL PUSH OVER THE FORECAST AREA ON MONDAY AND
TUESDAY. MOISTURE PROFILES WILL ALSO BE INCREASING SO DECENT
CHANCE OF RAIN FOR MONDAY AND TUESDAY. SOUTHERLY FLOW ON WEDNESDAY
AND THURSDAY WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE MOIST FLOW OFF THE GULF AND
A CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.
