FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY
936 PM EDT WED MAY 1 2002

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JACKSON KY HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  JACKSON COUNTY.

* UNTIL 230 AM EDT THURSDAY.

* WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THAT VERY HEAVY RAIN OF    
  AROUND 1 TO 1.75 INCHES IN THE PAST HOUR HAD FALLEN OVER JACKSON   
  COUNTY FROM THUNDERSTORMS. 

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WAS CAUSING WATER TO RISE RAPIDLY 
AND FLASH FLOODING OF HIGHWAY 30 NEAR ANNVILLE WAS REPORTED. THE 
ROAD WAS REPORTED CLOSED AT 9:33 PM WITH AROUND 8 INCHES OF WATER 
FLOWING OVER IT. IN ADDITION...SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...LOW LYING 
AREAS AND HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES ARE PRONE TO FLOODING. 

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT
QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. LEAVE AREAS
SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN THE WATER STARTS TO RISE.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS 
IMMINENT. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT 
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...LOW WATER CROSSINGS OR OTHER LOW SPOTS IF 
WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN 
A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING WATER...MOVE TO HIGHER 
GROUND.
