000 WGUS53 KICT 250007 FFWICT KSC035-250500- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WICHITA KS 705 PM CDT FRI MAY 24 2002 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WICHITA HAS ISSUED A * FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR... COWLEY COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS * UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT * AT 702 PM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WAS OCCURRING ACROSS SOUTHWEST COWLEY COUNTY. DOPPLER ESTIMATES ARE THAT ONE TO ONE AND A HALF INCHES OF RAIN ARE POSSIBLE PER HOUR. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE GROUNDS WERE ALREADY SOAKED FROM EARLIER THUNDERSTORMS THAT CROSSED THE AREA. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL AGGREVATE THE FLOODING POTENTIAL CONSIDERABLY. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT...WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.
