COASTAL BEND FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CORPUS CHRISTI TX
300 PM CDT TUE JUN 25 2002

SHORT TERM...FAIRLY NICE COVERAGE OF SHOWERS AND STORMS OVER THE
VICTORIA AREA THIS AFTERNOON AS LAPS SHOWS MCON BULLSEYE WEST OF VCT
WITH INSTABILITY AXIS OVER THE EASTERN COUNTIES. WILL KEEP LOW POPS
FOR EARLY TONIGHT OVER NORTHERN ZONES. MAY ALSO INCLUDE LOW POPS FOR
CRP AREA AS WELL DEPENDING ON RADAR TRENDS BUT FOR NOW WILL NOT
MENTION IN FORECAST. FOR WEDNESDAY...SHEAR AXIS WILL EXTEND FROM W
GULF INTO NE COUNTIES OF FORECAST AREA. BEST FOCUS AND INSTABILITY
WILL BE OVER NORTHEAST COUNTIES AGAIN SO WILL HAVE HIGHEST POPS
AGAIN. WITH AVN PROGGING SHEAR AXIS TO MOVE SLIGHTLY WEST ON
THURSDAY...WILL MAINTAIN SIMILAR POPS OVER THE REGION FOR THURSDAY
ALTHOUGH MAY NEED TO CONSIDER BOOSTING POPS FURTHER INLAND LATER.

LONG TERM...EXPECT DEEPER E/SE FLOW TO DEVELOP NEAR THE WEEKEND AS
MID LEVEL TROUGHING BECOMES MORE PRONOUCED. PWATS ARE PROGGED TO BE
ABOVE 2 INCHES SO WILL MAINTAIN CHANCE POPS INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.

MARINE...SOUTHERLY DIURNAL PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL INCREASE THROUGH
THURSDAY ACROSS THE WATERS ALONG WITH ISOLATED AIRMASS CONVECTION.
POTENTIAL FOR CONVECTION WILL INCREASE LATER IN THE WEEK AND THROUGH
THE WEEKEND AS DEEP TROPICAL MOISTURE OVERSPREADS THE REGION AND
BOUNDARY LAYER FLOW WEAKENS. PWAT VALUES ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE
INTO THE 2-2.5 INCH RANGE AS INVERTED MID-LEVEL TROF DEVELOPS WITHIN
THE RETROGRESSING SYNOPTIC-SCALE ELONGATED TROF ACROSS SOUTH
TEXAS..PLACING MUCH OF THE AREA IN THE MOIST AND UNSTABLE EASTERN
QUADRANT OF CYCLONIC CIRCULATION.
