WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
250 PM EDT SUN AUG 12 2001

CURRENTLY...DRY MID LEVEL AIR AND SUBSIDENCE IS HELPING TO SUPPRESS
CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE FA EARLY THIS AFTERNOON WITH ONLY
A FEW SHOWERS NOTED ALONG THE EAST COAST SEA BREEZE AS I WRITE. LOOKS
AS THOUGH CONVECTION WILL BE VERY LATE TO START AND MAINLY FOCUSED
OVER INTERIOR COASTAL ZONES AND INLAND LOCATIONS WHERE BEST BOUNDARY
COLLISIONS TAKES PLACE AND 5 PM PACKAGE WILL REFLECT THIS.

SHORT TERM...MODELS IN GOOD AGREEMENT THIS AFTERNOON. ATLANTIC UPPER
RIDGE AND ATTENDANT SURFACE RIDGE AXIS ACROSS THE N-CENTRAL PENINSULA
WILL HOLD THROUGH MONDAY...THEN DRIFT SOUTH TO THE NEAR THE LAKE BY
LATE ON TUESDAY AS AN UPPER TROUGH DEVELOPS ALONG THE EAST COAST WITH
AN ATTENDANT FRONTAL BOUNDARY SAGGING SOUTH INTO THE SERN GULF
STATES. END RESULT FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS WILL BE A STATUS-QUO WITH
LATE NIGHT THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON CONVECTION NORTH...AND AFTERNOON
AND EVENING ACTIVITY ELSEWHERE. MAV POPS CONTINUE TO LOW THROUGH THE
PERIOD...SO WILL FAVOR A BLEND OF FWC/FAN WITH 30-40% DURING THE
DAY...AND 20% FOR THE EVENING HOURS.

EXTENDED...LITTLE CHANGE EXPECTED ON WEDNESDAY AS SURFACE RIDGE AXIS
PERSISTS OVER THE SOUTH-CENTRAL PENINSULA. BEYOND THIS THE ATLANTIC
UPPER RIDGE BUILDS WEST FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WITH THE SURFACE
RIDGE AXIS ADVANCING NORTH WHICH WILL BRIEFLY TRANSITION THE FA INTO
A EAST/SOUTHEASTERLY FLOW REGIME WITH LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING
CONVECTION. BY SATURDAY THOUGH ANOTHER UPSTREAM TROUGH MAY SUPPRESS
THE RIDGE BACK TO THE SOUTH AGAIN WITH YET ANOTHER TRANSITION TO
SWLY FLOW NORTH...AND WEAK FLOW CENTRAL AND SOUTH. SEEING THAT THESE
TRENDS MAY CHANGE AGAIN OVER THE NEXT FIVE DAYS...WILL KEEP CURRENT
TIMING AND COVERAGE OF POPS AS IS FOR NOW.

MARINE...SFC RIDGE AXIS MEANDERING ABOUT THE PENINSULA DURING THE
NEXT FIVE DAYS WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT TRANQUIL WIND/SEA STATES WITH
AFTERNOON ONSHORE SEA BREEZE COMPONENT DEVELOPING NEAR THE COAST EACH
DAY. NO HIGHLIGHTS EXPECTED.

THANKS FOR COORD KMLB.
