WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
141 PM EDT TUE JUL 10 2001

WESTERLY FLOW WELL ESTABLISHED BELOW 700 MB THIS AFTERNOON...AND
WILL GRADUALLY DEEPEN TO H50 AND ABOVE OVER THE NEXT 24-48H AS
EASTERN U.S. TROUGH AXIS TAKES OVER FLOW ALOFT. IN FACT...
INDIVIDUAL WEAK SHORT WAVES (OR SHEAR AXES) WILL MAINTAIN TROUGHING
INTO THE WEEKEND. IN SHORT...MUGGY NIGHTS AND STEAMY DAYS WITH THE
THREAT OF PCPN JUST ABOUT ANYTIME.

MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THE LARGE PICTURE...BUT DIFFER IN
THE DETAILS. TRYING TO PINPOINT FINER DETAILS IN THIS PATTERN IS
AKIN TO FINDING A NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK...SO WILL KEEP A FOCUS ON
THE BROAD SCALE RATHER THAN THE SPECIFIC.

SHORT TERM:
CURRENTLY THE CENTRAL FA IS JUST GETTING GOING...WITH THE MAIN WX
STORY HEAT INDEX (100-105). ACROSS THE N...TSTM TRAIN EXTENDS W FROM
CIT/LEV TO OFF APALACHICOLA. PCPN FOCUS PROBABLY COMBO OF EARLIER
BOUNDARIES ALONG WITH WEAK PVA AREA AHEAD OF SHEAR ZONE (N FL/S GA)
WHILE CENTRAL ZONES ARE IN WEAK NVA. EXPECT AT LEAST SCT COVERAGE TO
REACH THE CNTL/SW FA BY MID AFTERNOON.

OTHERWISE...COMBINATION OF BOUNDARIES...INSTABILITY...AND A SLOW
S SINKING OF THE SHEAR AXIS WILL PROVIDE PLENTY OF IMPETUS FOR
SCT-NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND TSTMS. TIMING WILL GENERALLY FAVOR LATE
NIGHT THROUGH EARLY AFTN COAST AND DAYTIME THROUGH EVE INLAND.
HOWEVER...AVG STORM MOTION OF 15 KT COULD ALLOW GULF DEVELOPED
STORMS TO MAKE THEIR WAY INLAND...EVEN LATE AT NIGHT. DIURNAL
CONSIDERATIONS WILL KEEP NIGHTTIME CHANCES A SHADE LOWER.

HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL REMAIN HIGH OVERNIGHT (90+) IN URBAN AREAS...
BUT DAYTIME RAINS AND GULF BREEZES SHOULD KEEP VALUES NEAR 100 (OR
LESS) EACH DAY.

EXTENDED:
MORE OF THE SAME INTO THE WEEKEND. 12Z AVN/00Z MRF ACTUALLY
ENHANCE SFC-H70 SW FLOW...WHICH COULD ARGUE FOR EVEN MORE WIDESPREAD
COVERAGE FRI AND SAT. SHADOW OF H50 TROUGH MAY HANG OVER THE E GULF
INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK...BUT WILL DROP BACK TO MORE CLIMO PCPN TRENDS
ON DAYS 6 AND 7.

MARINE: W OR SW 10-15 KT RIGHT THROUGH THE PERIOD ON AVERAGE WITH
SCT-NMRS TSTMS. 'NUFF SAID.

FIRE WX: NO HIGHLIGHTS.
