WEST CENTRAL TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANGELO TX 315 PM CDT MON MAY 7 2001 COLD FRONT EXTENDED FROM SOUTH OF MIDLAND....TO SAN ANGELO...THEN NORTHEAST TO ABILENE AND WICHITA FALLS AT 20Z. SOME BOUNDARIES WERE INDICATED MOVING WEST ACROSS THE CONCHO VALLEY...FROM OUTFLOW OF STORMS THAT INITIATED EARLIER THIS MORNING OVER NORTH AND CENTRAL TEXAS. SATELLITE BASED CAPES WERE 3000 J/KG TO 3800 J/KG AT 17Z OVER SOUTHERN HALF OF CWA...WITH SLIGHTLY LOWER OVER NORTHERN SECTIONS (BIG COUNTRY). VERY LITTLE CIN PRESENT...AND A FEW STORMS WERE DEVELOPING NEAR MENARD AND ABILENE. SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE THROUGH EARLY EVENING. ANOTHER POTENTIAL AREA OF CONCERN IS FLASH FLOOD POTENTIAL...AS STORMS WILL BE VERY SLOW MOVING...AND LOCALIZED AREAS COULD SEE LOCALLIZE HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS...PARTICULARLY AREAS SOUTH OF THE BIG COUNTY. WILL HOLD OFF ON FLASH FLOOD WATCH AS THERE DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A PROCESS FOR SUSTAINED INFLOW...LIKE A STRONG 850 MB JET OVER THE STALLED FRONT. STILL...WILL MONITOR THE POTENTIAL FLOOD SITUATION. FORWARD MOVEMENT FRONT HAS SLOWED DOWN...AN IT APPEARS AREAS SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 20 WILL HAVE THE BEST CHANCE OF CONVECTION THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...AS FRONT SLOWLY PUSHES SOUTH AND WASHES OUT IN THE INTERSTATE 10 AREA LATER TONIGHT AND TUESDAY.
