WEST CENTRAL TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANGELO TX
316 PM CDT TUE APR 10 2001

INGREDIENTS FOR A DRY LINE EVENT ARE BEGINNING TO TAKE SHAPE. THE LATEST
SURFACE ANALYSIS PLACES THE DRY LINE NEAR A TCC-HOB-MRF LINE. FURTHER
WEST...THE PACIFIC FRONT APPEARS TO BE OVER WESTERN NM WHILE THE UPPER LOW
IS MOVING EASTWARD INTO AZ. STILL EXPECTING SURFACE CYCLOGENESIS TO TAKE
PLACE ALONG THE LEE OF THE ROCKIES. THIS WILL ACT TO KEEP THE LOWER LEVEL
WIND FLOW FROM THE SOUTH/SOUTHEAST THROUGH THE EVENING. MAY ACTUALLY SEE
THE DRY LINE MOVE A LITTLE FURTHER WEST BEFORE THE PACIFIC FRONT AND UPPER
LEVEL EFFECTS DRIVE THE DRY LINE EASTWARD THIS EVENING.

STRONG INSTABILITIES...DESPITE TODAYS CLOUD COVER...LOOK AS THOUGH THEY
WILL STILL BE IN PLACE. THE AVN SOLUTION LOOKS A BIT OUT OF WACK AS 80
DEGREE TEMPS AND MID 50 DEWPOINTS ARE UNLIKELY AT 06Z WHEN THE DRY LINE
SLAMS THROUGH. IN CONTRAST...THE ETA HAS A BETTER HANDLE WITH A MORE
BELIEVABLE LOW 70S/LOW 60S SCENARIO. WITH 700 MB TEMPERATURES SUPPORTING A
WEAK CAP...THE STRONG DRY LINE CONVERGENCE SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE
ADVANTAGE OF 1500 PLUS CAPES AND A WELL PRONOUNCED THETA-E RIDGE WHICH NOW
SHOWS GOOD VERTICAL DEPTH AND A CONTINUING DISPLAY OF A TIGHT GRADIENT ON
THE WESTWARD SIDE.

CURRENT WIND SPEEDS ARE RUNNING IN THE 15 TO 25 CATEGORY AND AS THE
SURFACE LOW INTENSIFIES THIS EVENING...WIND SPEEDS WILL LIKELY INCREASE TO
THE 20 TO 30 MPH LEVEL. THIS WILL EASILY CREATE WIND DAMAGE POTENTIAL AS
CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT TAPS INTO EVEN STRONGER WINDS ABOVE THE SURFACE.
WINDY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY AS A GOOD DEAL OF MIXING
AND SUBSIDENCE EXISTS. WITH TEMPERATURES REACHING THE 75 TO 80 DEGREE MARK
AND DEWPOINTS AROUND 15 TO 20 DEGREES...BONE DRY AIR WITH RELATIVE
HUMIDITIES IN THE TEENS WILL BE IN PLACE. THEREFORE A FIRE WEATHER WATCH
HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL ZONES FOR WEDNESDAY.

ON SATURDAY...THE DRY LINE RETURNS WESTWARD AS WEAK IMPULSES WITHIN THE
SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT MOVES ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. WILL LEAVE POPS OUT
FOR NOW BUT SATURDAY WILL NEED TO BE MONITORED.

ON TUESDAY...THE MRF BRINGS A FRONTAL BOUNDARY DOWN ALONG WITH APPRECIABLE
INSTABILITIES. WILL REFRAIN FROM INTRODUCING POPS AND WAIT FOR LATER MODEL
RUNS TO VERIFY THE PRECIP POTENTIAL.
