AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY
128 PM CDT THU SEP 6 2001

PRIMARY PROBLEM FOR THIS FORECAST CONTINUES TO BE POPS THROUGH THE
WEEKEND.

A VIGOROUS UPPER-LEVEL LOW WILL RACE EASTWARD INTO THE CENTRAL
ROCKIES BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON. THIS WILL HELP PUSH THE UPPER-LEVEL
HIGH EAST OF THE AREA...AND ALLOW SOUTHWEST FLOW TO DEVELOP IN ITS
PLACE. THIS WILL ALSO CAUSE A WEAK UPPER LOW OVER THE TEXAS
PANHANDLE TO EJECT NORTHEAST WHICH WILL PRODUCE SCATTERED COVECTION
ACROSS THE REGION THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. FRIDAY NIGHT A SECOND
TROUGH DIVES SOUTH OUT OF CANADA AND CARVES OUT A RATHER LARGE
TROUGH IN THE CENTRAL U.S. MEANWHILE THE ORIGINAL LOW WILL ROTATE
NORTHEAST AROUND THE DEVELOPING TROUGH AND PUSH A COLD FRONT ACROSS
THE ENTIRE AREA SATURDAY.

WITH SOUTHWEST FLOW DEVELOPING ALOFT AND SOUTHERLY FLOW INCREASING
AT THE SURFACE...MOISTURE WILL BE ON THE INCREASE...WITH MODELS
SHOWING PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES BETWEEN 1.5 AND 2 INCHES TONIGHT
THROUGH SATURDAY. WITH THE MAIN SFC/UPPER LOWS PASSING WELL TO OUR
NORTH AND WEST...THERE WILL BE LITTLE IN THE WAY OF LIFT OR
INSTABILITY UNTIL THE FRONT ARRIVES SATURDAY.

THE ONLY LIFT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH MINOR
DISTURBANCES IN THE STRENGTHENING SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT. STRONG
COLD FRONT WILL RACE ACROSS THE AREA SATURDAY...AND WITH GOOD
UPPER-LEVEL SUPPORT...WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE
LIKELY. BEHIND THE FRONT MODELS SHOW MOISTURE LINGERING THROUGH
SUNDAY MORNING. THIS COMBINED WITH THE UPPER TROF PASSAGE AND
ASSOC POSITIVE VORTICITY ADVECTION COULD PRODUCE SCATTERED
SHOWERS...SO WILL LEAVE THE MENTION OF MORNING SHOWERS ON SUNDAY.

BEYOND SUNDAY HIGH PRESSURE AT THE SURFACE AND INCREASED RIDGING
ALOFT WILL SERVE TO PRECLUDE THE PRODUCTION OF PRECIPITATION FROM
MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.

FWC/MAV MOS NUMBERS VERY CLOSE SO WILL FOLLOW CLOSELY FOR LOWS AND
GO SLIGHTLY ABOVE GUIDANCE FOR HIGHS.

.PAH...NONE.

THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY
1102 AM CDT THU SEP 6 2001

THIS THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK IS FOR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI...SOUTHERN
ILLINOIS...SOUTHWEST INDIANA...AND WESTERN KENTUCKY. IT IS VALID
UNTIL 600 AM FRIDAY.

SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS
AFTERNOON OVER THE ENTIRE AREA IN A VERY WARM AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS.
THE PROBABILITY FOR THUNDERSTORMS INCREASES FROM EAST TO WEST ACROSS
OUR COUNTY WARNING AREA. A COUPLE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS HAVE
ALREADY DEVELOPED ALONG A WEAK WARM FRONT OVER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI.
THIS FEATURE WILL LIFT NORTHEAST TODAY WHICH WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE
FOCUS FOR MORE CONVECTION. ELSEWHERE SCATTERED CONVECTION WILL
DEVELOP IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY. ATMOSPHERIC DYNAMICS ARE WEAK AND
INSTABILITY IS MARGINAL...SO ORGANIZED SEVERE ACTIVITY IS NOT
EXPECTED. THE ATMOSPHERE IS HEAVILY MOISTURE LADEN...SO LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE. NO MAJOR FLOODING PROBLEMS ARE EXPECTED
HOWEVER...AS STORMS WILL NOT BE SLOW MOVING OR STATIONARY.

STORM MOVEMENT WILL BE TOWARD THE NORTHEAST AT 25 TO 30 MPH.

SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT ANTICIPATED THIS AFTERNOON OR TONIGHT.
