EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MELBOURNE FL
215 PM EDT SAT SEP 1 2001

CURRENTLY/TONIGHT...15Z XMR SOUNDING A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY
THAN THE 10Z SOUNDING REGARDING MOISTURE...AS PWATS NOW INDICATED
AROUND 1.7 INCHES DUE TO A DRY SLOT AT H9-H7. CU FIELD SHOWS THIS
SOMEWHAT DRYER AIR RESIDES ACROSS CEN FL...WITH HIGHER MOISTURE AIR
N AND S OF CWA. GOOD CONVECTION NOTED ALONG THE WC SEA BREEZE IN THE
BIG BEND AREA WHERE HIGHER MOISTURE EXISTS. BOUNDARY COLLISIONS
SHOULD STILL GET STUFF GOING OVER CWA...BUT WILL TAKE MORE TIME
TODAY...PROBABLY MOSTLY INTO THE EVENING PERIOD. WILL TWEAK EVENING
POPS BEFORE ISSUANCE...BUT CURRENT THINKING IS FOR 30-40 POPS
NORTH...THEN TRIMMING DOWN TO 20 POPS (OR LESS) SRN COAST WHERE
STEERING FLOW IS WEAKER AND SEA BREEZE WILL MOVE INLAND FURTHER.

SUNDAY THROUGH LABOR DAY...WEAK H5 HIGH (590 DM) BECOMES CENTERED
OVER REGION. LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WHICH CAUSED TX FLOODING WILL LIFT
OVER THE RIDGE INTO THE TN VALLEY. EXPECT SFC RIDGE AXIS WILL REMAIN
OVER SRN CWA NEAR LAKE OKEECHOBEE THROUGH THE PERIOD...PER ETA/NGM.
AVN IS FARTHER NORTH WITH THE RIDGE AXIS...BUT HAS SHOWN A NORTHWARD
BIAS THIS SUMMER WITH THE PLACEMENT OF THE AXIS...SO NOT BUYING IT
FOR NOW. NO MAJOR CHANGE EXPECTED IN THE MOISTURE PROFILE THROUGH
THE PERIOD...WITH PWATS 1.8-2.0 INCHES. LOW LVL SW FLOW WILL
CONTINUE OVER NRN CWA THROUGH MON...ALTHOUGH WEAKER ON MON. SHOULD
SEE SCT TSTMS ALONG THE SEA BREEZE BOUNDARIES...ESPECIALLY WHEN
EAST/WEST COAST BOUNDARIES CONVERGE OVER THE ERN HALF OF THE
PENINSULA. GIVEN THE ABOVE...EXPECT SCT POPS (NEAR CLIMO) THROUGH
THE PERIOD...WITH BEST CHCS OVER THE NRN CWA AND LOWEST CHCS SRN
COAST AS THE EC SEA BREEZE MOVES INLAND QUICKER TO THE SOUTH. WITH
WEAKER STEERING FLOW ON MON...SHOULD SEE LESS MOVEMENT BACK TO THE
COAST IN THE EVENING.

EXTENDED...S/WV DROPS OUT OF CANADA INTO THE GREAT LAKES REGION. THE
PATTERN AMPLIFIES AS AN H5 RIDGE BUILDS INTO THE NRN PLAINS AND THE
TROF DEEPENS OVER THE ERN US. THIS WILL ALLOW A COLD FRONT TO
DROP SOUTH STALLING OVER GA BY WED. LOOKS LIKE THE BERMUDA SFC RIDGE
AXIS NEVER MOVES NORTH. VERY LIGHT WIND FLOW INDICATED DUE TO THE
SFC RIDGE BREAKING DOWN AS THE UPR TROF MOVES OVER THE ERN US COAST
BY MID WEEK. NO MAJOR WET OR DRY AIR PROGGED TO MOVE INTO THE
REGION...THEREFORE NEAR CLIMO POPS/TEMPS EXPECTED AS INDICATED BY
MED RANGE GUIDANCE.

MARINE...NO HIGHLIGHTS. MAY NEED TO TWEAK WIND DIRECTION IN THE
EXTENDED AS MODELS ARE NO LONGER INDICATING THE SFC RIDGE WILL MOVE
NORTH. THIS WOULD MEAN THE DEEP ERLY FLOW PREVIOUSLY INDICATED WOULD
NOT OCCUR. WOULD RATHER LEAVE EXTENDED ALONE FOR NOW AND SEE IF SOME
MODEL CONTINUITY IS ESTABLISHED NEXT FEW RUNS.
