AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LOUISVILLE KY 300 AM EDT THU JUNE 21 2001 SHOWERS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS WESTERN KENTUCKY AND SOUTHERN INDIANA HAVE BEEN SLOW TO MOVE INTO OUR COUNTY FORECAST AREA. I FEEL THIS PRECIPITATION WILL REMAIN ALONG AND NORTH OF THE OHIO RIVER THIS MORNING AS IT DIMINISHES. MODELS AREA IN AGREEMENT ON BRINGING A VIGOROUS S/W CURRENTLY OVER SOUTH DAKOTA INTO THE UPPER OHIO VALLEY BY THIS EVENING. AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE ALONG A WEAK FRONTAL BOUNDARY STRETCHED ALONG THE OHIO RIVER AS WELL. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL OVERSPREAD THE CFA THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING. SOME OF THE STORMS MAY BECOME SEVERE AND THE SPC HAS INDICATED A SLIGHT RISK EXISTS FOR OUR CFA. THE BEST CHANCE FOR RAIN WILL REMAIN ALONG AND NORTH OF THE OHIO RIVER AND SOME LOCATIONS MAY SEE AN ADDITIONAL INCH TO ONE AND A HALF INCHES OF RAIN IN HEAVIER THUNDERSTORMS. A SECOND S/W WILL DROP INTO THE EASTERN U.S. TROF ON FRIDAY BUT MOISTURE WILL BE LIMITED AND I DO NOT EXPECT ANY MORE PRECIPITATION AFTER TONIGHT.
