SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA 300 AM CST WED FEB 28 2001 A COLD FRONT IS SLOWLY MOVING SOUTHEAST JUST OVER THE CENTRAL PORTION OF LOUISIANA THIS MORNING CAUSING A MAJORITY OF THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS JUST NORTH OF THE CWA. THE FRONT SHOULD SLOWLY SAG SOUTH CAUSING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO INCREASE THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. DENSE FOG HAS FORMED AND IS PRETTY MUCH SOUTH OF THE COLD FRONT WHICH IS IN THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE CWA...THEREFORE WILL CONTINUE THE DENSE FOG ADVISORY BUT FOR ONLY THE SOUTHERN TWO-THIRDS OF THE CWA UNTIL MID MORNING. THE LCH SOUNDING LAST NIGHT INDICATED A PWAT OF 1.34 AND A K-INDEX OF 23...WHICH INDICATES THE AIRMASS IS BECOMING MORE MOIST AND UNSTABLE. THE LIFTED INDEX IS A -2.2 WITH A CAPE OF 1865 J/KG INDICATING THE AIRMASS IS UNSTABLE BUT NOT AT A POINT OF WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER. ISOLATED INCIDENCE OF SEVERE WEATHER COULD DEVELOP LATER TODAY. TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO BE NEAR NORMAL TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE WITH A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF CLOUDINESS EXPECTED.
