SOUTHEAST TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX 250 PM CDT FRI AUG 17 2001 A FEW SHRA DEVELOPING OVER NE ZONES THIS AFTN CLOSER TO OLD FRONT ACROSS NORTH TX. WILL KEEP CHANCE POPS GOING THIS AREA TONIGHT TO ACCOUNT FOR CONVECTION DEVELOPING ALONG FRONT. NOW APPEARS 500 MB TROF DIGGING INTO THE OHIO VALLEY THIS WEEKEND WILL MOVE FURTHER EAST AND HAVE LESSER EFFECTS ON CWA THAN PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT. 12Z MODELS HAVE BACKED OFF CONSIDERABLY ON MOISTURE LEVELS AND PRECIP CHANCES AS A RESULT. PREVAILING WESTERLY FLOW FROM SURFACE TO 500 MB WILL HELP TO CAP SE TX THIS WEEKEND. LATEST AVN SHOWS HIGHEST PWS OVER NE ZONES TONIGHT FALLING TO AROUND NORMAL VALUE OF 1.7 INCHES SATURDAY. PWS PROGGED TO DROP BELOW NORMAL AREA WIDE SUNDAY. NEXT FRONT PUSHES INTO NE TX/NRN LA SUNDAY AFTN BEFORE STALLING BUT WILL GENERATE ONLY ISOLATED TSRA IN THE DRIER AIRMASS. ONLY OTHER TRIGGER FOR CONVECTION WILL BE AFTERNOON SEABREEZE BUT THIS WILL ONLY MUSTER ISOLATED TSRA MAINLY OVER THE COUNTIES AROUND HOUSTON/GALVESTON. WILL LEAN TOWARD WARMEST MAV GUIDANCE FOR TEMPS NEXT FEW DAYS SINCE IT HAS VERIFIED WELL LATELY. COLLEGE STATION JUST HAD 8 DAYS IN A ROW WITH TEMPS 100 DEGREES OR HIGHER AND WILL LIKELY REMAIN ABOVE THE CENTURY MARK FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. HEAT INDICES WILL HAVE TO BE WATCHED OVER THE WEEKEND. A COUPLE OF SPOTS REACHED VALUES OF 109 DEGREES ON THURSDAY...AND 105 TO 109 DEGREE VALUES APPEAR LIKELY SAT/SUN. WILL PUT OUT AN SPS FOR HIGH HEAT INDICES THIS WEEKEND. FOR EXTENDED...LATEST AVN/MRF SHOW TROF BEGINNING TO MOVE INTO WESTERN STATES DURING THE UPCOMING WEEK WHICH ALLOWS H500 RIDGE TO BUILD RIGHT OVER EAST TX/LA.
