THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  MADISON COUNTY IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA

* UNTIL 100 PM EDT

* AT 955 AM EDT... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SHOWED HEAVY RAIN 
PERSISTING IN NORTHERN MADISON COUNTY NEAR THE TENNESSEE BORDER AND 
IN WESTERN SECTIONS OF THE COUNTY NEAR THE HAYWOOD COUNTY LINE. A 
SPOTTER REPORTED ABOUT TWO INCHES OF RAIN SINCE 7 AM NEAR PETERSBURG 
BETWEEN MARSHALL AND MARS HILL.

THE RAINS OF THE PAST WEEK HAVE CREATED SOIL CONDITIONS THAT WILL 
CONTRIBUTE TO RAPID RUNOFF AND HIGH WATER LEVELS IN CREEKS AND SMALL 
STREAMS. PEOPLE SHOULD BE ALERT FOR FLASH FLOODING UNTIL THE HEAVY 
RAINS DIMINISH EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON.

* FLOODED ROADWAYS AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS ARE ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS. 
CHILDREN SHOULD NOT PLAY IN FLOOD WATERS AND MOTORISTS SHOULD AVOID 
WATER COVERED STREETS AND HIGHWAYS.
