THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  MACON COUNTY IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA

* UNTIL 145 PM EDT

* AT 1139 AM EDT...RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY RAIN OVER SOUTHERN AND 
  CENTRAL MACON COUNTY.  MOST OF THE RAIN HAS OCCURRED ALONG THE
  LITTLE TENNESSEE RIVER...WHICH FLOWS TOWARD FRANKLIN. SPOTTER 
  REPORTS AND A RAIN GAUGE AT OTTO INDICATED BETWEEN TWO AND A HALF
  AND THREE AND A HALF INCHES OF RAIN HAD FALLEN IN THE AREA SINCE 
  MID MORNING.  CRAWFORD CREEK...WHICH RUNS THROUGH FRANKLIN...WAS 
  REPORTED OUT OF ITS BANKS BY THE FRANKLIN POLICE.

* RAIN IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST 2 PM. ANOTHER 1 TO 2 
  INCHES OF RAIN COULD BRING OTHER SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS OUT OF 
  THEIR BANKS...FLOODING ROADWAYS. 

ANYONE IN MACON COUNTY SHOULD KEEP ALERT TO RISING WATER. IF YOU 
OBSERVED STREAMS OR CREEKS RISING...MOVE TO SAFETY ON HIGHER GROUND. 
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSSING HIGH WATER ON FOOT OR IN AN AUTOMOBILE. 
REPORT ANY FLOODING TO LOCAL EMERGENCY OFFICIALS AND HAVE THEM RELAY 
THIS INFORMATION TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
