TEXAS/OKLAHOMA PANHANDLES FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AMARILLO TX 217 PM CDT FRI JUL 27 2001 LOOKS LIKE FIRST PERIOD SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM CHANCES WILL BE BETTER THAN AVERAGE EVEN OVER THE SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE. THIS AFTERNOON...ISOLATED CONVECTION CONTINUES TO ORGANIZE OVER THE EASTERN PLAINS OF NEW MEXICO...SOUTH PLAIN AND SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE PER RECENT 88D RADAR IMAGERY. PRIMARY MECHANISMS FOR DEVELOPMENT ARE THE MID LEVEL SHORT WAVE OVER THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES AND THE VERY MOIST AIRMASS. WE HAVE A LOW PRESSURE CENTER BETWEEN GUYMON AND LAHUNTA WITH A PRIMARY SURFACE BOUNDARY STRETCHED EAST- WEST JUST NORTH OF THE OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE. THIS PATTERN FAVORS CONVECTION AND PERHAPS LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL FROM GUYMON TO CANADIAN AND FROM BORGER TO BEAVER...SIMILAR TO NATIONAL QPF GUIDANCE AND 12Z SHORT RANGE MODEL FORECASTS. MEANWHILE...12Z ETA/AVN MODELS SHOW THIS AREA WILL BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A 25H RIGHT ENTRANCE REGION AND FAVORABLE 7H OMEGA FIELDS OF -8 TO -10 UBAR/S. CORFIDI VECTORS SUGGEST SOUTHERN STORMS WILL TRACK NORTH TO NORTHEAST. THIS MAY ALLOW CONVECTION TO ORGANIZE ALONG THE SURFACE BOUNDARY NEAR THE OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE WHERE AN ISOLATED WET MICROBURST WOULD BE POSSIBLE THIS EVENING. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES FOR THIS AREA ARE PROGED TO BE NEARLY TWO INCHES BY 06Z SATURDAY. A QUICK LOOK OUT THE OFFICE WINDOW CONFIRMS DEVELOPING TCU/CB. WILL BUMP POPS TO LIKELY OVER NORTHERN ZONES AND MENTION HEAVY RAINFALL THEN TAPER POPS SOUTHWARD BASED ON LATEST RADAR TRENDS. FOR SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT WILL NEED TO CONTINUE MENTION OF POPS FOR MAINLY DIURNAL CONVECTION BASED ON RICH MOISTURE VALUES EXPECTED TO REMAIN OVER THE PANHANDLES. WILL ALSO LOWER HIGHS A CAT SINCE BOUNDARY TO THE NORTH SHOULD GET PUSHED OVER THE SOUTHERN COUNTIES AND SKIES WILL BE ONLY PARTLY SUNNY. SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT...WILL RETAIN SLIGHT POPS FOR SUNDAY NIGHT. TEMPS WILL BE WARMER ON SUNDAY WITH MORE INSOLATION EXPECTED. NO REAL CHANGES TO THE EXTENDED PERIODS.
