SOUTHWESTERN SARASOTA COUNTY. * UNTIL 600 PM EDT. * AT 530 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WITH DAMAGING WINDS...NEAR VENICE... WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL 259 PM EDT WED AUG 23 2000 SHOWERS ARE POPPING UP ALL OVER THE INLAND COUNTIES...THESE STORMS WILL MOVE INTO COASTAL COUNTIES SHORTLY. EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO SEABREEZE IT STANDS TO REASON THAT THERE WILL BE SOME LOW LEVEL SPEED CONVERGENCE NEAR THE COAST. I WOULD EXPECT THUNDERSTORMS TO BLOW UP A BIT NEAR AND JUST OFFSHORE. ACTIVITY SHOULD NOT LAST MUCH BEYOND SUNSET. FOR THURSDAY...I AM GOING TO SHUT DOWN THE POPS AS WE START TO FEEL THE SUBSIDENCE AROUND DEBBY. THIS OF COURSE WILL MEAN POPS HIGHER IN THE NORTH THAN IN THE SOUTH. ITS BEYOND THURSDAY THAT THE FORECAST BECOMES A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT.
