WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
140 PM EDT FRI JUN 16 2000

THERE IS PRETTY GOOD COVERAGE INLAND ALREADY THIS AFTERNOON AS THE
EAST COAST SEABREEZE RACES INLAND. THE WEST COAST SEABREEZE IS
STRUGGLING A LITTLE SO FAR...SO MY GUESS IS WE WILL SEE PRETTY GOOD
FLAIR UPS CLOSE TO THE COAST IN A COUPLE HOURS...STARTING IN THE
SOUTH AND DEVELOPING NORTH. LOCAL STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT THE
POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR A FEW OF THESE STORMS TO BE STRONG.

I ADMIT THE MODELS WERE RIGHT YESTERDAY...THE UPPER LOW NEAR THE
YUCATAN MOVED NORTH AND THE UPPER LOW IN THE NORTHWEST GULF BECAME
THE DOMINANT FEATURE. CONVECTION OVER THE EASTERN GULF SHOULD LESSEN
SOME AS DEVELOPMENT NOW WILL FAVOR THE CENTRAL GULF. MODELS HAVE
THE UPPER LOW IN THE NORTHWEST GULF OPENING UP AND BECOMING
ENGULFED IN THE LONG-WAVE TROUGH OVER THE PLAINS.

FOR US THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE WILL BUILD WESTWARD...SURFACE PRESSURES
AND LOW LEVEL HEIGHTS WILL BE ON THE INCREASE AS UPWARD LIFT
DECREASES. WE WILL STAY ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE RIDGE THROUGH
THE MEDIUM RANGE...KEEPING US IN DEEP EASTERLY FLOW. THERE WILL
BE ENOUGH LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE AND MOISTURE TO DEVELOP PM
THUNDERSTORMS...ESPECIALLY ALONG THE COASTS. I WILL GO WITH FAN
GUIDANCE...EXCEPT TRENDING BACK JUST A LITTLE ON POPS LATER IN THE
FORECAST.

MARINE...SURFACE PRESSURE WILL INCREASE AND WINDS WILL BE LIGHTER IN
THE NORTH. I WILL BREAK OUT THE SOUTHERN LEG OF THE FORECAST FOR
HIGHER WIND. WINDS TODAY HAVE CONSISTENTLY BEEN IN THE 10 TO 15 KT
RANGE...AND THAT WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE SOUTH.
