UTAH AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UTAH 935 AM MDT MON JUL 10 2000 SYNOPSIS...A MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR MASS WILL REMAIN OVER MOST OF UTAH TODAY BUT WITH SOME DRYING BEGINNING IN THE SOUTHWEST. THE DRYING TREND WILL CONTINUE STATEWIDE TUESDAY. DISCUSSION...THIS AM IS SOMEWHAT ACTIVE OVER NORTHERN UTAH AND WILL BECOME EVEN MORE SO THIS AFTERNOON. S/WV FROM CNTRL NV WILL ROTATE NORTHEAST INTO NORTHERN UTAH LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. ALONG WITH THIS FEATURE COMES LOTS OF DYNAMICS...HAVE THE JET RIGHT OVER THIS AREA...LOTS OF SHEAR/ INSTABILITY...CAPE IS IMPRESSIVE...ALONG WITH UPPER LEVEL DIVERGENCE. ALL THIS SPELLS FOR A RATHER SEVERE TYPE AFTERNOON AND EVENING OVER THE NORTH. GOES PW CHART INDICATES AN INCH OR MORE PW OVER THE NORTH AND SOME LESSER AMOUNTS IN THE REMAINDER OF THE STATE. A DRIER AMS HAS SPREAD INTO SOUTHWEST UTAH AND THE DYNAMICS IS LACKING...SO THIS WILL BE THE LEAST LIKELY AREA FOR CONVECTION. MRF INDICATES FLOW BY THE END OF THE WEEK AGAIN FAVORABLE FOR MONSOON CONDITIONS AS MOISTURE AND WIGGLES ROTATE AROUND THE PERIPHERY OF THE SUBTROPICAL HIGH THAT IS SITTING OVjER CO. HAVE UPDATED NORTHERN UTAH...SOUTHEAST IDAHO...AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING ZONES FOR "LCLY HEAVY RAINS...HAIL...AND STRONG WINDS". SLC 665 CDC 31- ALDER .SLC...NONE.
