THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  EASTERN DENT COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL MISSOURI

* UNTIL 515 AM CDT

* AT 212 AM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
  THUNDERSTORMS...WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL...IN THE VICINITY OF
  SALEM...AND ALSO TO THE EAST OF SALEM. THESE STORMS WERE MOVING TO
  THE SOUTHEAST AT 5 MPH. DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATED ONE HOURLY RAINFALL
  RATES OF UP TO 3.5 INCHES...JUST NORTH OF SALEM. ADDITIONALLY...
  RADAR ESTIMATED STORM TOTAL RAINFALL WAS 6 TO 8 INCHES OVER EASTERN
  DENT COUNTY. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL...ON TOP OF THE RAINFALL THAT HAS
  ALREADY FALLEN...WILL CAUSE SIGNIFICANT RISES IN CREEKS AND STREAMS.
  LOW WATER CROSSINGS WILL LIKELY FLOOD...AND STREET FLOODING IS
  LIKELY IN THOSE TOWNS WITHIN THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING. CAMPERS IN
  THE WARNED AREA...SHOULD TAKE ACTION NOW...BY HEADING FOR HIGHER
  GROUND.

* SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS ARE PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAINFALL IN THE
  WARNED AREA. RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH
  FLOODING TO OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLASH
  FLOODING INCLUDE...SALEM...AND RURAL AREAS OF EASTERN DENT COUNTY.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...NORMALLY DRY WASHES AND
ARROYOS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY...COUNTRY
ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS...STREAMS AND OTHER LOW
LYING AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLASH FLOODING.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT. IT IS
IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE RELATIVE TO STREAMS...RIVERS...OR
CREEKS WHICH CAN BECOME KILLERS IN HEAVY RAINS. CAMPERS SHOULD AVOID
CAMPING ALONG STREAMS OR CREEKS DURING THREATENING RAINS.

MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS IF WATER COVERS THE
