SOUTHWEST ARIZONA/SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PHOENIX AZ
326 PM MST WED AUG 16 2000

.SYNOPSIS...
HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WILL REMAIN OVER SOUTHWEST ARIZONA AND SOUTHEAST
CALIFORNIA AT LEAST THROUGH THE WEEKEND. MEANWHILE...A SERIES OF LOW
PRESSURE DISTURBANCES WILL ERODE THE PERIPHERY OF THE HIGH FROM TIME
TO TIME WHILE CAUSING THE CENTER OF THE HIGH TO MOVE AROUND OVER THE
GREATER SOUTHWEST. ONE SUCH DISTURBANCE...REMNANTS OF TROPICAL STORM
BERYL...IS MOVING TOWARD SOUTHEAST ARIZONA...BRINGING WITH IT A GOOD
DEAL OF ADDITIONAL MOISTURE. THIS WILL BRING INCREASING THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY TO SOUTH-CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST ARIZONA LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

.DISCUSSION...
REMNANTS OF TS BERYL CONTINUES TO MOVE RAPIDLY NWWD ACROSS NERN MEX
...WITH LOTS OF MOISTURE APPARENT IN SATELLITE DATA. TERRAIN BETWEEN
AZ AND BERYL WILL MODIFY AMOUNT OF MOISTURE TO REACH AZ...BUT IT WILL
DO A LOT TO WET UP AN AREA THAT HAS BEEN DRYING OUT THE LAST COUPLE
OF DAYS. DRIER AIR MOVED WWD ACROSS SRN AZ TODAY...BUT THIS WILL BE
SHORTLIVED AS THE NEW MOISTURE MOVES IN FROM THE SE TONIGHT AND THU.
WILL GO WITH THE IDEA OF SLIGHT CHANCE POPS LATE NIGHT TONIGHT AND
THU MORNING FOR THE S-CNTRL DESERTS...INCREASING POPS THU AFTERNOON
AND NIGHT AS MORE MOISTURE MOVES IN. LOOKS LIKE A DEFORMATION AXIS
RUNNING SW TO NE ACROSS THE CWA BY FRI...WITH MOST OF THE CWA EITHER
IN THE ZONE OR ON THE WET SIDE OF IT. THEREFORE...IDEA OF UPRAMPING
STORM ACTIVITY SEEMS SOLID AND WILL CONTINUE TREND. IN THE EXTENDED
...MODIFIED FAR WRN ZONES A BIT...PUTTING THE RIVER ZONES AND FAR SE
CA IN CHANCE POP9S FRI NIGHT...ADDED PERIOD...AND SAT...BUT NOT IN ON
SUN OR MON AS THE MOISTURE STREAM APPEARS TO MOVE EWD AS THE FLOW
OVER THAT AREA BECOMES SWLY. WILT
