SOUTHWEST ARIZONA/SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PHOENIX AZ
245 PM MST SUN JUL 30 2000

.SYNOPSIS...
UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE GREAT BASIN REGION WILL GIVE AN
EAST NORTHEAST FLOW TO THE ENTIRE FORECAST AREA THIS WEEK. MOISTURE
LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS...AND
REMAIN HIGH ENOUGH TO HELP FEED LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS. THIS THUNDERSTORM THREAT WILL EVENTUALLY REACH ALL
THE WAY INTO SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA BY MONDAY NIGHT AND THEREAFTER.
MEANWHILE...AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO BE NEAR LATE JULY
NORMALS.

.DISCUSSION...
AFTERNOON CONVECTION HAS BEEN QUITE SLOW TO FORM AND SO FAR HAS BEEN
PRETTY WIMPY. SATELLITE PIX SHOW WEAK CBS FORMING ALONG MOGOLLON RIM
THEN DISSIPATING QUICKLY WITH ANVIL TOPS SCOOTING SWWD. MOISTURE...OR
RELATIVE LACK THEREOF...CONTINUES TO BE THE ONLY NEGATIVE FACTOR TO
WHAT OTHERWISE SHOULD BE A VERY ACTIVE...POSSIBLY SEVERE...DAY. 12Z
MODELS HINTED THAT SOME BRIEF MID LEVEL DRYING HAS OCCURED OVER ERN
AZ TODAY...AND WITH THE WIMPY CONVECTION...THIS MAY BE THE CASE.
HOWEVER...APPROACHING IMPULSE OVER NM...ALONG WITH OTHER POSSIBLE
RIPPLES EMBEDDED IN THE NELY FLOW...HAS US STILL HOPING FOR SOME
EVENING DESERT CONVECTION. ISSUED AN HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
EARLIER...DUE TO THE SEVERE MICROBURST POTENTIAL WITH ANY STORMS THAT
DO PROPOGATE OFF THE RIM OUR DIRECTION THIS EVENING. RAINFALL WITH
ANY STORMS TONIGHT WILL BE LIGHT AND SPOTTY DUE TO RELATIVELY DRY
LOWER LEVELS. THEREFORE...CUT POPS TO SLIGHT CHANCE VALUES...WITH THE
THREAT OF STORMS OCCURING SOMEWHAT HIGHER. RAISED POPS UP TO CHANCE
CATEGORIES MONDAY NIGHT AS WE SHOULD BE A LITTLE WETTER BY THEN.
ALSO...STARTED TO INTRODUCE SOME MINOR POPS INTO SE CA BY TOMORROW
NIGHT AS DEEP E/NELY FLOW COULD TAKE SOME ACTION THAT FAR WEST. THE
EXTENDED WILL BE LEFT AzS IS...WITH A CHANCE OF STORMS GOING EACH DAY
AS UPPER HIGH TO OUR N STAYS PUT. ESTLE
