WESTERN MONTANA AND NORTH CENTRAL IDAHO FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MISSOULA MT 945 AM MDT THU AUG 24 2000 ZONES HAVE ALREADY BEEN UPDATED. A LINE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER IDAHO COUNTY CONTINUES TO MOVE EAST. THIS ACTIVITY IS ASSOCIATED WITH A VORT MAX MOVING THROUGH THE AREA AND SUPPORTED BY 70 KNOT JET. THIS ACTION SHIFTS INTO WEST CENTRAL/SOUTHWEST MONTANA BY NOON... WHERE ATMOSPHERE BECOMES VERY UNSTABLE WITH EXCELLENT DYNAMICS NEAR JET AND PASSING VORT MAX. BESIDES FREQUENT LIGHTNING THE STORMS POSE A THREAT OF STRONG WINDS WITH AN OUTSIDE CHANCE THE WINDS COULD BE UP TO SEVERE LEVELS. JUST GOT A CALL FROM IMET NEAR GRANGEVILLE WITH GUSTS UP TO 50-60 MPH IN THE OUTFLOW BEHIND STORMS. FURTHER TO THE NORTH EXPECT ONLY ISOLATED SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS.
