* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR...
  EASTERN MARIPOSA COUNTY IN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

* UNTIL 305 PM PDT

* AT 220 PM PDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
  SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IN THE VICINITY OF TUOLOMNE MEADOWS EAST OF
  HETCH HETCHY RESERVOIR. THE STORM WAS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY
  RAIN AND FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING. MOVEMENT WAS NORTH AT
  5 TO 10 MPH.

* CAMPERS AND HIKERS IN THIS AREA SHOULD SEEK SHELTER FROM THIS
STORM.  HEAVY RAIN CAN RESULT IN FLASH FLOODING. RADAR INDICATES

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE CONTINUING THIS AFTERNOON ALONG THE
SIERRA CREST. WITH UNSTABLE ATMOS OVER OUR CWA AT THIS TIME WILL
KEEP MENTION OF T-STORMS IN THE EASTERN VALLEY...FOOTHILL AND
MOUNTAIN ZONES THROUGH THIS EVENING. WILL NOT MENTION POPS IN THE
DESERTS WHERE SUBSIDENCE HAS TAKEN PLACE. MAIN VORT CURRENTLY
LOCATED NEAR RENO IS CONTINUING TO LIFT NORTHWARD. AS AIRMASS
STABILIZES WITH NVA AND DIURNAL COOLING EXPECT CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY
TO SHUT OFF SOON AFTER SUNSET. WV IMAGERY INDICATING POSITIVE TILT
TROUGH SLOWLY DROPPING SE INTO THE PAC NW. THIS WILL FLATTEN THE SW
US RIDGE ALLOWING FOR A DRY SW FLOW TO SET UP TONIGHT. 12Z ETA...NGM
AND AVN ALL AGREE ON THIS. FORT ORD PROFILER NOW INDICATING THAT THE
MARINE LAYER HAS INCREASED IN DEPTH TO 1600 FT AND IS STILL
BUILDING. WITH TROUGH CONTINUING TO DROP SE EXPECT A SHALLOW MARINE
PUSH INTO THE VALLEY TONIGHT. HOW STRONG IT WILL BE REMAINS TO BE
SEEN BUT DO EXPECT TEMPS TO BE MORE SEASONABLE ACROSS THE CENTRAL CA
INTERIOR ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. MODEL 850 MB TEMPS 2 TO 4 DEG C
COOLER ACROSS THE CWA ON FRIDAY THAN TODAY SO IT APPEARS THAT SOME
COOLING WILL TAKE PLACE. WONT BEND MUCH FROM MAV GUIDANCE OUT
THROUGH SATURDAY. WITH LOWER TEMPERATURES AND RHS EXPECTED ON
FRIDAY DO NOT EXPECT HEAT ADVISORY CRITERIA TO BE MET SO WILL DROP
HEAT ADVISORY. MODEL SOUNDING PROGS LOOK DRY AFTER TONIGHT SO AFTER
THIS EVENING WILL NOT MENTION POPS THROUGH SATURDAY.

IN THE EXTENDED PERIOD...AVN OUT TO 120 HOURS SPLITS THE PAC NW
TROUGH AND FORMS A CUTOFF LOW OFFSHORE ON SATURDAY THEN SLOWLY
RETROGRADES IT WESTWARD. THIS SOLUTION IS IN AGREEMENT WITH THE
MRF...NOGAPS AND ECMWF SOLUTIONS. THE UKMET IS A HOLDOUT AND KEEPS A
TROUGH OVER THE PAC NW BEFORE SPLITTING IT ON MONDAY. WILL FOLLOW THE
CONSENSUS SOLUTION...KEEPING A DRY SW FLOW ACROSS THE CWA WITH
MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND TEMPERATURES CREEPING UP BUT REMAINING CLOSE
TO NORMAL.
