NORTHERN ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ 230 PM MST SAT JUL 22 2000 SYNOPSIS...A STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN CENTERED OVER THE FOUR CORNERS AREA THROUGH SUNDAY AND THEN MOVE SOUTHWARD INTO SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO ON MONDAY. MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL REMAIN OVER NORTHERN ARIZONA THROUGH SUNDAY AND THEN IS EXPECTED TO BE SWEPT EASTWARD ON MONDAY AS SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT RETURNS TO THE STATE. DISCUSSION...A BUSY AFTERNOON SO WILL KEEP IT SHORT. THE NGM AND ETA ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT THROUGH 18Z SUNDAY AS THEY SHOW MID LEVEL MOISTURE BEING CIRCULATED AROUND THE ANTICYCLONE CENTERED OVER THE 4 CORNERS. AT 18Z SUNDAY THOUGH THE NGM DEVELOPS A 70% RH POOL AT H7 CENTERED OVER NEEDLES. THE DPROG/DT OF THIS PANEL DOES NOT SHOW GOOD RUN TO RUN CONSISTENCY. SECOND...THE OVERALL PATTERN ACROSS THE WEST LOOKS TO BE DEAMPLIFYING WITH TIME...ALLOWING THE RIDGE AXIS ORIENTATION TO CHANGE FROM ITS CURRENT NORTH TO SOUTH POSITION TO MORE EAST TO WEST. ALSO THE ANTICYCLONE CIRCULATION CENTER LOOKS TO BE SHIFTING SOUTHWARD SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY...WITH A RETURN OF DRY WEST SOUTHWEST FLOW TO CWA FROM MONDAY THROUGH AT LEAST THURSDAY.
