WAPELLO COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST IOWA THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF OTTUMWA * UNTIL 915 PM * AT 613 PM...WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED SEVERAL ROADS BECOMING WATER COVERED BY 1 TO 2 FEET OF WATER IN AND NEAR OTTUMWA. * THUNDERSTORMS ARE CONTINUOUSLY REDEVELOPING OVER THE WARNING AREA AND TO AREAS NORTHWEST. THESE STORMS WILL REPEAT OVER WAPELLO COUNTY THROUGH AT LEAST 8 PM...RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE RAINFALL RATES WILL AVERAGE 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR. THIS WILL PRODUCE FLASH FLOODING ALONG THE MANY SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS IN WAPELLO COUNTY. RAINFALL ESTIMATES OF 3 TO 7 INCHES HAVE OCCURRED FROM OTTUMWA EAST ALONG HIGHWAY 34. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES...ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT.
