SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST MONTANA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BILLINGS MT 841 PM MDT MON JUL 31 2000 .TUE AND WED... SHORTWAVES MOVING THROUGH AND AROUND UPPER RIDGE THIS EVENING...CAUSING SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS. ONE WAVE CAUSING THUNDERSTORMS OVER SOUTHWEST MONTANA JUST NOW ENTERING OUR WESTERN ZONES. ANOTHER WAVE TRIGGERING LINE OF ACTIVITY JUST MOVING SOUTHEAST INTO BILLINGS AREA. ETA PICKED UP WELL ON THIS WAVE LAST NIGHT AS WELL AS CURRENT RUN. WEAK BACK DOOR TROUGH THAT BACKED IN LAST NIGTH AND HIGH PRESSURE IN DAKOTAS HAS ALLOWED EASTERLY WIND TO BRING SOME LOW LEVEL MOISTURE INTO AREA WITH DEWPOINTS AROUND 50...AS WELL AS DIRECTIONAL SHEAR WITH WEAK MESO- CYCLONES IN SOME ACTIVITY TONIGHT. BEST INSTABILITY IN SOUTHEAST COUNTIES THIS EVENING. WAVE FAIRLY STRONG SO THINK ACTIVITY WILL GO BEYOND "EVENING" HOURS UNTIL AROUND MIDNIGHT. WILL REWORD ZONES TO REFLECT SLIGHTLY LONGER PERIOD CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS. THUNDERSTORMS NOT TOO WET...BUT ARE PRODUCING MORE RAIN THAN PREVIOUS NIGHTS WITH MORE LEVEL MOISTURE. WILL UPDATE POPS IN FROM BILLINGS WEST A BIT TO REFLECT INCREASED MOISTURE. RASCH .THU...FRI...AND SAT... RIDGE REBOUNDS A BIT THURSDAY AND FRIDAY AFTER THE FRONTAL PASSAGE TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. I EXPECT A CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS FRIDAY EVENING AS A CANADIAN COLD FRONT TRACKS ACROSS THE AREA FROM THE NORTH. SATURDAY WILL BE DRY WITH NORMAL TEMPERATURES.
