NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LITTLE ROCK AR
738 PM CDT SAT MAY 22 1999

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH ISSUED FOR WESTERN ARKANSAS...

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH WILL BE IN EFFECT UNTIL 100 AM CDT FOR 21
COUNTIES IN WESTERN ARKANSAS.

SEVERAL CLUSTERS OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE MOVING THROUGH WESTERN
ARKANSAS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS. THESE STORMS WILL BE MOVING INTO
AN AREA WHERE THE AIR IS WARM...MOIST...AND QUITE UNSTABLE.

AS A RESULT...SOME OF THE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BE SEVERE. THE
MAJOR THREAT FROM THE STORMS WILL BE LARGE HAIL...BUT A FEW OF THE
STORMS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AS WELL.

THERE WILL BE NUMEROUS CLOUD-TO-GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES...SO PEOPLE WHO
HAVE ACTIVITIES PLANNED OUTDOORS THIS EVENING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO MOVE
QUICKLY TO A PLACE OF SAFETY.

MOVEMENT OF THE STORMS WILL BE RATHER SLOW...SO THIS RAISES THE THREAT
OF LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN. RAINFALL RATES WILL LIKELY BE 1 TO 2 INCHES PER
HOUR WHERE THE HEAVIEST RAIN OCCURS. THIS WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO CAUSE
SOME FLOODING OF CITY STREETS AND COUNTY ROADS.
