AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GOODLAND KS 214 PM MDT (314 PM CDT) THU MAY 13 1999 ...CHALLENGES ARE MANY..FROM 2ND PD ON..WHERE WILL DRY LINE BE AND WHEN WILL CAP BREAK?.. BASED ON INITIALIZATION AM GOING WITH AN ETA/AVN MIX. BOTH SEEM TO BE BETTER WITH RESPECT TO POSITIONS AND INTENSITY OF SFC COMPONENTS...BUT NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE. ALL MODELS SIMILAR ALOFT. THRU FCST PD APPEARS MY CWA WILL BE THE TRANSITION AREA BETWEEN DRIER AND MORE STABLE CONDITIONS TO SOUTH AND SIGNIFICANT AND ACTIVE AREA TO THE IMMEDIATE NORTH AND NORTHEAST. FCST FURTHER COMPLICATED BY MODELS INDICATING DRY LINE TO FLUCTUATE BACK-AND-FORTH FROM W-E-W OVER THE PD WITH SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES IN DEWPOINTS ACROSS DRYLINE. APPEARS CAP WILL HOLD OVER MOST OF CWA THRU FRI PM BEFORE BEGINNING AN EASTWARD SHIFT. HOWEVER BOUNDARIES CAUSED BY POTENTIAL TSTM OUTBREAK IN SW NEB COULD CAUSE RAPID BREAK IN CAP...PARTICULARLY N OF INTERSTATE 70...LATE TONIGHT AND FRI. BY FRI EVENING ON SEE UPPER SUPPORT BECOMING MORE FAVORABLE FOR TSTM OUTBREAK AS AT LEAST NORTHERN SECTION OF CWA COMES UNDER (ALBEIT SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM) RIGHT REAR QUAD OF JET. DEPENDING ON DRY LINE LOCATION FRI NIGHT AND SAT...WITH HIGH DEW POINTS AND ALMOST STATIONARY SFC LOW IN AREA...POTENTIAL FOR TSTMS (SOME POSSIBLY SEVERE) LOOKS GOOD IN AT LEAST KS AND NEB PORTION OF CWA INTO-THRU WEEKEND. IN FACT...WITH NEAR BLOCK/LITTLE W TO E MOVEMENT OF UPPER SYSTEMS INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK...CHANCE OF TSTMS LOOKS TO BE KEY WORDING THROUGHOUT EXTENDED PD. .GLD...NONE. RJC
