THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WARNING  FOR

* LITCHFIELD COUNTY CONNECTICUT

EFFECTIVE UNTIL MIDNIGHT EST TONIGHT.

ONE TO ONE AND A HALF INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN OVER LITCHFIELD
COUNTY SINCE LATE  LAST NIGHT.  MOST OF THIS RAIN HAS RUN OFF INTO
THE STREAMS SINCE MUCH OF THE GROUND WAS COVERED WITH PATCHES OF
ICE LEFT OVER FROM STORMS IN LATE JANUARY.

AT 6PM...SKYWARN SPOTTERS REPORTED THAT THE EAST ASPETUCK RIVER
WAS OVER ITS BANKS JUST ABOVE NEW MILFORD AND WAS FLOODING INTO
NEARBY FIELDS. IT WAS ALSO BANKFULL NEAR MARBLEDALE AND
GETTING CLOSE TO BANKFUL NEAR ASPETUCK AVENUE IN NEW MILFORD.

ALSO IN LITCHFIELD COUNTY THE POMPERAUG RIVER WAS RISING RAPIDLY
AT SOUTHBURY AND WOODBURY.  IT WAS AROUND 5 FEET AT 3PM AND RISING
ABOUT 6 INCHES AN HOUR.  IT WILL CREST CLOSE TO THE 8 FOOT LEVEL
SHORTLY BEFORE MIDNIGHT.  AT THIS LEVEL MINOR FLOODING MAY OCCUR.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS FLOODING HAS BEEN OBSERVED.  IF YOUR HOME OR
BUSINESS IS ALONG A RIVER OR STREAM BE PREPARED FOR RISING WATER.

DO NOT DRIVE OVER FLOODED ROAzDS OR BRIDGES. STANDING WATER MAY HIDE
WASHOUTS OR OTHER DAMAGE.  NEVER TRY TO WALK ACROSS FLOWING WATER
THAT'S  OVER YOUR KNEES ON FOOT AS YOU MAY BE SWEPT AWAY.
