MOJAVE DESERT/SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAS VEGAS NV 240 PM PDT THU AUG 13 1998 SYNOPSIS...A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM AT UPPER LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE OVER WESTERN NEVADA WILL SHIFT SLOWLY SOUTHEAST INTO NORTHERN ARIZONA BY FRIDAY. THIS WILL MAINTAIN A MOIST EASTERLY FLOW ACROSS THE SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN AND MOJAVE DESERT. DISCUSSION...SATELLITE SHOWING CONVECTION OCCURRING OVER MOST OF OUR CWFA MAINLY OVER THE MOUNTAINS. EXPECT STORMS TO BE MORE NUMEROUS OVER OUR SOUTHERN ZONES THIS AFTERNOON AS LOW LEVEL MOISTURE IS STILL IN PLACE. MODELS SLOWLY DRY MOST OF THE CWFA BY SUNDAY SO WILL CONTINUE A WEAK MONSOONAL FORECAST THROUGH FRIDAY FOR OUR AREAS. NORTHWEST AZ WILL BE THE LAST TO DRY OUT AS TROUGH MOVES IN FROM THE NORTHWEST. EXTENDED CONTINUES TO PUSH MOISTURE TO THE EAST AND BRINGS A WESTERLY FLOW TO THE AREA. THIS WILL DRY US OUT FURTHER WITH TEMPS COOLING OFF A FEW DEGREES. LAS 0000.
