EASTERN OKLAHOMA/NORTHWEST ARKANSAS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK
100 PM CDT TUE APR 14 1998

NUMEROUS SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT.

MIDDAY WEATHER MAPS SHOWED A DEEPENING AREA OF SURFACE LOW PRESSURE OVER
SOUTHWEST KANSAS...WITH A DRY LINE EXTENDING SOUTH THROUGH WESTERN
OKLAHOMA INTO WESTERN TEXAS. SOUTH WINDS HAVE CONTINUED TO INCREASE
DURING THE MORNING AND WERE HELPING TO INCREASE LOW LEVEL MOISTURE
ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND WEST CENTRAL ARKANSAS. SURFACE DEWPOINTS IN
THE 60S HAD ADVANCED INTO NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA BY MIDDAY AND WITH
CONTINUED HEATING THE AIR MASS WILL BECOME VERY UNSTABLE THIS AFTERNOON.

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP OVER SOUTHERN KANSAS AND NORTH
CENTRAL OKLAHOMA LATE THIS AFTERNOON ALONG THE SLOWLY ADVANCING DRY
LINE. AS THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE MOVES NORTHEAST ACROSS KANSAS...THE
DRY LINE WILL ADVANCE SLOWLY EAST ACROSS OKLAHOMA...WITH THUNDERSTORMS
ADVANCING INTO EASTERN OKLAHOMA TOWARD EVENING.

IT APPEARS THAT THE BEST THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER IN EASTERN OKLAHOMA
WILL BE AFTER DARK. HOWEVER...A FEW STORMS COULD DEVELOP AND MOVE INTO
OSAGE AND PAWNEE COUNTIES BY 6 OR 7 PM. THE THREAT FOR SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS WILL SPREAD ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND INTO WESTERN
ARKANSAS DURING THE EVENING.

GIVEN THE AMOUNT OF INSTABILITY AND THE VERTICAL WIND PROFILES...
SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE QUITE LIKELY...AND IT APPEARS THERE WILL
BE A POTENTIAL FOR TORNADOES. IN ADDITION...DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE
HAIL ARE ALSO EXPECTED.

BY WEDNESDAY MORNING THE SURFACE LOW WILL BE OVER NORTHERN MISSOURI WITH
THE DRY LINE ALONG THE OKLAHOMA-ARKANSAS BORDER. THUS...THE THREAT FOR
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL LAST INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS WEDNESDAY.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCIES AND STORM SPOTTER GROUPS SHOULD CLOSELY
MONITOR THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER SITUATION. SPOTTERS WILL LIKELY NEED TO
BE ACTIVATED THIS EVENING...ESPECIALLY AFTER 6 PM.
