EASTERN OKLAHOMA/NORTHWEST ARKANSAS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK
100 PM CDT MON JUN 8 1998

A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH TONIGHT IN NORTHEAST
OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS MAINLY TO THE NORTH OF INTERSTATE 40.
ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE IN SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND
WEST CENTRAL ARKANSAS TO THE SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVED ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS THIS MORNING AND EARLY THIS AFTERNOON IN RESPONSE TO AN UPPER
LEVEL DISTURBANCE THAT WAS MOVING ACROSS KANSAS. IN THE WAKE OF THIS
ACTIVITY SKIES REMAINED CLOUDY EARLY THIS AFTERNOON WITH TEMPERATURES
STILL IN THE 60S AND 70S. THIS HAS LIMITED THE INSTABILITY ACROSS
EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS...HOWEVER SOME SUNSHINE MAY
RETURN BY LATER THIS AFTERNOON...WARMING TEMPERATURES AND HELPING THE
ATMOSPHERE TO ONCE AGAIN DESTABILIZE.

FURTHER TO THE WEST...A DRYLINE HAS BECOME WELL DEFINED FROM WESTERN
KANSAS DOWN INTO THE EXTREME EASTERN PORTION OF THE TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA
PANHANDLES. THE DRYLINE IS EXPECTED TO MOVE A LITTLE EASTWARD ON INTO
FAR WESTERN OKLAHOMA DURING THE AFTERNOON.

OVER WESTERN OKLAHOMA...PARTLY SUNNY TO MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES HAVE WARMED
TEMPERATURES WELL INTO THE 80S AND THE ATMOSPHERE HAS BECOMING
INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE. AS TEMPERATURES CONTINUE TO WARM DURING THE
REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON...THE DRYLINE IS EXPECTED TO BECOME THE FOCUS
FOR THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT DO DEVELOP ALONG
THE DRYLINE WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO QUICKLY BECOME SEVERE AS THEY
MOVE TO THE NORTHEAST AND APPROACH EASTERN OKLAHOMA LATER THIS
EVENING...THEN EVENTUALLY REACHING NORTHWEST ARKANSAS IF THEY HOLD
TOGETHER.

IF STORMS CAN DEVELOP DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS EVENING...THEY
WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE LARGE HAIL... DAMAGING WINDS AND
POSSIBLY EVEN TORNADOES GIVEN THE FAVORABLE WIND PROFILES.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS AND STORM SPOTTER GROUPS IN EASTERN
OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS SHOULD MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS
THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF TODAY AND BE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE ACTIVATION.
