THERE IS A RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA. THE AREA UNDER THE HIGHEST THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER IS GENERALLY ALONG AND EAST OF A LINE FROM HENDERSON TO ASHEBORO TO ALBEMARLE AND INCLUDES SUCH PLACES AS THE TRIANGLE...FAYETTEVILLE AND GOLDSBORO. THE MAIN THREAT FROM THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS AND SOME LARGE HAIL. THE STORMS WILL ALSO BE ACCOMPANIED BY FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES AND BRIEF HEAVY RAINFALL. IT APPEARS THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT WILL BE GREATEST IN THE TRIANGLE AREA THROUGH 2 PM THEN DIMINISH. AREAS EAST AND SOUTH OF THE TRIANGLE SUCH AS GOLDSBORO AND FAYETTEVILLE WILL SEE THE GREATEST THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER BETWEEN 12 NOON AND 4 PM. A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON. THIS COLD FRONT WILL ENCOUNTER A VERY UNSTABLE AIRMASS.
